Into the Endless Dream

By Cosmic Cairns on July 17, 2026 6:37 pm

I decided to do a relatively stripped back song this week, at least in comparison to last week.  I started out imagining walking through a forest at night and let the lyrics just sort of flow out from there.

I'm posting this on my birthday, and while birthdays certainly don't have the same pizazz they did when I was younger, I try to still do something to make them fun and commemorate them.  I decided to gather up a bunch of my songs from the first three months of this year and release them as an album.  I called it Supernova Blossoms.  On the one hand it feels a little weird, since I just released another album back in February.  It's like I'm Guided By Voices or something!  But all of us who participate in Weekly Beats end up being pretty dang prolific.  It's not like I'm really worried about oversaturating the market or anything, and I don't really see the point of sitting on songs forever. So why not put them out there?  If you feel inclined to check it out it's on the streaming services or you can find it here on bandcamp:  https://cosmiccairns.bandcamp.com/album/supernova-blossoms

I saw there were already a couple purchases/downloads on there, I believe from orangedrink and Raja the Resident Alien.  Just want to say thank you.  You rock!

Anyway, here's the lyrics for this week's song:

__________________________________________________________________________________________

I'm wandering through a forest tonight
Catching glimpses of the moonlight
As it shines on me through the treetops
I'm looking for a place to stop
And pause my thoughts for a while

I start to drift off from today
Sleeping under the Milky Way
In my dreams I'll meet with an old friend
Sweet lies allow me to pretend
Everything's as it should be

I could undo reality
And I'd find you here next to me
When I wake up under the warm sun
Peering above the horizon
At a world that never was

Seems like a long time since I lost steam
I'll walk into the endless dream
And I'll lose myself in the fogbank
Maybe you'll draw only a blank
When you think back on this time

Meanwhile I'll be dust in the air
The wind disperses me everywhere
I'll gather myself over the rainclouds
Find my voice and utter out loud
This life was so unlikely

This is epic. So fun listening to people’s demos every week. With a touch more polish this could be album worthy. Favorite part was the outro synth and final lyric

Can't believe how anyone can do drums + guitar + synths + lyrics + vocals, all of that in only one week.
The drums/guitar are drifting away a bit, but all in all great job!

I think if Leda is about wanting to be found, this one is about hiding. Echoes of 50s rocknroll ballads, but filtered through indie washiness. Love the hornlike synth part starting 0:30. Really like the word-painting around the minor chords (that "warm sun" isn't as much of a comfort as the narrator would like, much less that dream of the old friend). Love the right ear guitar part and the organ swells in the bridge. And then we fade into the outro: a retreat back into the dream, or a sad but sweet acceptance of now?

h(belated)bdcc! hope this is a great year for you. magic melody here, wrapped up in the forest stars

"Seems like a long time since I lost steam
I'll walk into the endless dream
And I'll lose myself in the fogbank" Don't know where this comes from, facts
