Interesting Developments at Cruikshank Industries

By Cosmic Cairns on August 10, 2022 10:26 pm

Just a little sketch of a story about some robots who come to life, overthrow their human corporate overlords, join up with the robot underground and eventually discover how to love.  The intro is excerpted from a 3 minute voice mail my SO left on my phone after accidentally butt dialing me while driving.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Sometime late last night the robots all came to life
And they said they'd had enough of making all this worthless stuff

They overran the guards then went out to the yard
Looked at all the stars above and felt the first stirrings of love

Before too long they'd found the Robot Underground
And they'd bring Cruikshank Industries tumbling right down to its knees.

Excellent feels on the guitar intro.  The chord progression with your vocals is very catchy and had me swaying back and forth.  Really cool reverse fx buildup too.  Oh and outro! Well done!

oh the intro has that MP3 artifact noise kinda!  oh wait now I see that it is a phone call - amazing.

I liked that wild breakdown before coming back in.  good noise outro ala Beck!

Good for them, and hopefully for us too.

Thanks!  I tried my best to keep things catchy and fun.

When in doubt, make a little noise on your way out!

Let's hope so!

i love that relaxed feel in your voice, so smoothly rides above such an excellent mix, and never heard a robot-takeover sound so appealing big_smile

awesome story. I love a good workers rise up story. Not sure I feel about robots having that much autonomy, but glad they can feel love, there's hope for them. This was great arrangement, the interlude, outro and intro, very original and cool sounds! Great mix .

Great story you sing about and a beautiful instrumentation. love your imagination and musicality.

Thanks!  When the actual robot takeover happens I hope it'll be nice and friendly.  smile

I'm scared of the robot uprising, but I think it's interesting that we humans seem to assume they will automatically be as bad as we are.  Hopefully they will find love and at the very least keep us as pampered pets or something.

Thanks!  It gets hard sometimes as you get older, but I try my best to keep my imagination active.

The accoustic guitar arpegio that takes over the intro is really fantastic. These are two hard panned guitars? The robot revolution sounds like a 60s hippie track - i love it.

Yes, I played the same guitar part twice (and took the opportunity to practice my finger-picking, which I've been trying to teach myself) and panned it.  And then they come back reversed and offset a bit from each other in the little break towards the end.

I absolutely love the lyrics: <summary of a complex event>, <detailed account of stars / love>, <summary of subsequent complex events>. This clever af, ace song. heart

Thanks!  Trying to keep things complex yet simple all at once.
