Insect World

By Cosmic Cairns on June 19, 2026 9:52 pm

I just wanted to play with some distorted guitar sounds and then I for some reason started thinking about bugs and this thing just came out.  Uh, hope you're not too bothered by creepy crawlies.

In the hot damp air a current swirled
Lost somewhere deep in the insect world
Sprouting legs and antennae and wings

Thunder crashed sought shelter from the storm
Held my breath and dove into the swarm
Where I can't be reached by anything

Bees buzzing as crickets chirp near the termite mounds
Red ants are burrowing into the swampy ground
Grasshoppers jumping around in the scraggly weeds
Gnats flying under the tree where the mantis feeds

Starting to feel more at home in this strange place
Never was really much more than an insect

Writhing and wriggling around as a hornet flies
Gazing at vast fields of view through my compound eyes
Beetles and ticks crawl along through the undergrowth
Towards where the butterfly queen takes her sacred oath

Watching the ladybugs dance in the flowerbed
Dodging mosquitoes that whirl all around my head
Hear all the cicadas sing out their droning song
Legions of colorful moths flap their wings along

Letting go of myself joined with the hive mind
I don't miss miss my old life at all
I'm living up to my fullest potential here
In the insect world's sprawl

Insect foleys! That pulled me directly in swiftly before i got knocked in the back of the head with heavy guitars! I love that the heavy fuzz sounds like a flight of bumblebees. The section at 0:56 with the light piano opens the sky.

And then 12/8 beat? (or something like that) - that was a cool transition. I like the variations of transitions! That heavy riffing at 2:16 was an interesting choice and that worked very well with the dynamics.

Who knew someone could make me welcome all the insects that come with the summer?

Super cool perc and rhythm. I like the little insect synth solo interlude

Refuge in the insect world is a fun idea

Also really liked the crunchy guitar buildup

Awesome energetic guitar sound! The lead synth sounds like it's giving a speech to the insect world smile  Oooh yais crunchy guitars 4tw! \m/

Bzz, great riffs, love the tones!

it is Insect World now, we are just living in it  big_smile
really fun tune. i like the skittery beat, and when the big guitars kick in...
and then the even BIGGER guitars kick in!
WOO

This was so much fun! Love how the insects are buzzing as much as the guitars. So creative  heart

Rockin' fuzzy pop song! The first half reminded me of Weezer with the lighthearted doubled vocals, triplet rhythm and heavy rat fuzz powerchord guitars. The bridge takes it into a different direction for a nice change of pace. Cool modulation into the last chorus.
Hope you still keep making music after turning into an insect, this one rocks!

Bugs! This is really fun. I love the pairing of the saw swarm with the literal insect swarm. Great guitar tone.

Thanks for listening!  Distorted guitars and insect sounds (as well as synths that sound insect-like to me) seem to go together surprisingly well.  Bugs seem to be inevitable.  I suppose we may as well try to embrace them on some level.

Thanks!  When it comes to insects, I suppose if you can't beat them, you may as well try to join them.  If they'll have you.

It was fun trying to find synth sounds that reminded me of insects.  And then combining them with the crunchy guitars seemed to work pretty well.

Nothing like some good insect sounding tones.  Thanks for listening!

The insects really do outnumber us by a considerable margin.  And I don't think they care much one way or another if we're here or not.  It kind of really is their world.  Thanks for listening!

Thanks!  It was a buzzy kind of week for sure.

Thanks!  I suspect having multiple legs might actually make it easier to play instruments, if you knew what you were doing with them.  smile

Thanks!  While I don't always enjoy insects, buzzing sounds are pretty cool, I think.

Fuzzy and bouncy and fun. Really like the main fuzz tone on your guitars. *Love* the bug layering in the prechorus, especially the right-channel (pitched down cicadas?). High piano in the chorus is sweet and light and a great contrast with all the buzzing. The flies in the bridge did get to me (bug problems at an old apartment), but the nasal brassy synth is another nice contrast.

"Gazing at vast fields of view with my compound eyes" made me laugh. And I love the dropout to just the guitar right before the ending, like a rev-up into the song's sweetest melody in the outro

Thanks!  If it helps any, I think those are actually bees buzzing rather than flies.  Not a fan of flies either.

the fuzz is not only awesome, but it's thematically consistent with the insects.

triplet rhythm is thematically consistent with 6 legged insects

There's probably a reason why fuzz and buzz rhyme.  Plus bumblebees are fuzzy.  Definitely felt the insect vibes.

Even bugs like to dance sometimes.  Apparently bees communicate through dance, which is super cool.

The jitterbug is the most appropriate possible dance for this song, I think.  Thanks for listening!
