Georgie Went A-Wanderin'

By Cosmic Cairns on April 20, 2018 1:17 am

One of the best sources of inspiration I've got are my dogs.  Seriously, I don't feel self-conscious singing at them so I sometimes am just making stuff up and putting their names in and will end up with a halfway decent song idea.  Sometimes I'll change the lyrics to something else, but this week I pretty much just kept what I was originally riffing on.  I was hanging out with my dog George and just started singing Georgie went a-wanderin' at him and the next thing I knew I had the basis for this song and just ran with it.

Great one! The refrain is real catchy... Love it!

Hope Georgie realizes what a great compliment this is. Excellent!

Yeah pets add a certain something to your life.  They don't ever get on your case or disappoint you the way humans can.  And it really is fun to sing to them.  Actually we've recently taken in a couple cats as well and one of them snuck into the room and let out a little meow that I caught at the very end of this track.

Thanks!  I was just kind of singing it without even really paying attention and then it sort of got caught in my head so I made a song out of it.

I think he does.  He's a pretty happy guy and actually often hangs out with me while I'm recording.  I've picked up some noises from him in songs before.  Also he's a cairn terrier and along with another cairn we used to have is the basis for my "Cosmic Cairns" name.  So he has received lots of compliments already!

Thanks!  It's fun to sing to them and sometimes it results in actual songs.  Can't go wrong with that.

He is!  If I actually let him go wandering on his own he'd probably do all this stuff and more.

Who’s a cheeky boy?! Lovely stuff ... Give Georgie a hug from me

  Consider it done!

This is an excellent ode to Georgie and a happy theme song!

It reminds me a bit of early Belle and Sebastian. Which is a great thing, cause I love them! smile

That's so cute! I wish I had a dog that I could sing to.

The name Georgie always brings to mind that iconic scene from Stephen King's It.. and I guess that Georgie went wandering and found something too.

It's definitely a fun way to make up songs and it's not embarrassing like it would be if I tried to do it with people.  I mean o could make up songs on the fly about people I know and sing to them but they would probably think I was crazy.  My dog just rolls over for tummy rubs.

I read the book a long time ago but just recently watched the movie and did notice the kid's name.  smile

Man, great song! Lovely vocal harmonies.  Like the sound!

Wonderful "indie-folk" vibe, hope Georgie appreciates it!
