Forgetting

I did an instrumental this week, and just for the fun of it, I tried writing it in 5/4.  I think it turned out pretty cool.

Fun use of the 5/4 time sig! I dig the punctual snare hits and the pads you went with. big_smile

magic music! i agree, it turned out really cool
and funny, i was playing around w/ something in 5/4 last week too. i didn't end up fleshing it out, but it's a good challenge for the brain for sure

love those calming pads underneath the drums and synths.  the main groove has a really cool hypnotic feel to it. 5/4 is fun!

The people yearn for weird, technical music in the age of AI I think we should just retire 4/4

I love the 5/4. Just the slight change in time signature instantly makes it more interesting and my brain latches on in fascination. Great stuff!

Thanks!  5/4 actually was pretty fun.  I might be tempted to try it again sometime.

I'd love to hear the results if you end up fleshing it out.  It is a good brain challenge.  I've been a little interested in trying out an "unusual" time signature for a while.  Once I sort of got in the flow with it, it wasn't too bad.  It didn't feel as weird or as wrong as I thought it might.

Thanks!  It was fun to figure out the sound design beyond just the 5/4.  And once I hit on that repeating 5 count groove, it did get kind of hypnotic for me, too.

Maybe you're right!  A lot of my musical ideas seem to just naturally fall in 4/4, but with a little shift in my thinking I could probably get comfortable in weirder time signatures.  I might have to try some more this year.

It is kind of funny what an effect a small thing like that can have.  Thanks for listening!
