Floating Castle

By Cosmic Cairns on February 17, 2022 10:29 pm

I was feeling up to trying some vocals this week and I thought I'd play around with some effects on them.  There's just a smidge of distortion on the main part and then I tried out a kind of mega-sustain thing on the wordless vocal parts. Just for fun.  Lyrically, I had this image in my head of a castle floating in the clouds and I just wanted to think about peaceful, chill images.  I've been a tiny bit stressed out lately for a variety of reasons, so it's sort of just a message to myself to relax.

Just close your eyes and it ain't no hassle
To take a trip up to the floating castle
(aaa-aaa)
Just like a dream there's no need to worry
You'll blow around like a light snow flurry
(aaa-aaa)
So come on in cause the gates are open
It's a great time to take a break from moping
(aaa-aaa)
All the birds and the clouds are in it
Just look around because the sky's the limit
(aaa-aaa)
The stars are out there's no sense of malice
Everything's chill in the floating palace
(aaa-aaa)
And take a look at the world below us
The whole landscape's coming into focus
(aaa-aaa)

I really like the way this has a live, raw feel to it; I think it really fits with the general message. The vocal effects are really great, I hope you find places to play around with more of that through the year. smile

I like the clarity of the mix, even with sometimes the abuse of ultra long reverbs!

Take care!

Thanks!  I for sure hope to do some more playing around with stuff like this over the course of the year.  52 weeks is a lot of tracks and there's room for experimentation in there.

Thanks! Some of the reverbs are for sure excessive, but I had fun playing around with them.

No such thing as too much verb, and always like to here you guys that actually do Vox! But such a pleasant chill tune

The theme reminded me of "Philemon and the hanging castle" (picture below).

Good singing, lots of positive energy - your stress does not make it into the track. smile I like also the rhythm guitar on this track. Nice ending on vocals stretching out.

You are giving a good picture from letting go and do some spiritual perspective thing.. That is what I would need right now. I am feeling much too earthbounded at the moment. Pretty good job you did, with everything and a double guitarsolo!!

Thanks!  Vocals are fun but can be tough.  I'll keep playing around with the verb though!

I'm not familiar with that book, but that's definitely the sort of image I had in my mind.

It's important to let go sometimes for sure.  Mentally and physically.  The double guitar solo was definitely fun to bust out.

Love the upbeat feel of this one.  Positive lyrics that flow nicely too.  Def had the floating upwards to the Castle feels especially during the guitar solo.  Nice work!

Ooooh-oooh.

This is beautiful.

I had no idea when that cymbal would hit!  Made it exciting.  Love your lyrics and your playful delivery.  I can feel the posi vibez

this line was exceptional:
"The stars are out there's no sense of malice
Everything's chill in the floating palace"

yeah seriously, this is was awesome

Cool reverb effects on the vocal sustained parts.  Your singing style changed in this song.  More attack, also clear and out front. I was getting a "western" as in cowboy vibe but not a country song but I could see you singing this on horseback as you mosey across the prairie. Hope you're getting some time to relax my friend.

It's always interesting to hear what impressions people get from things.  I definitely wasn't thinking about horses or prairies, but now I'll have to go back and listen to it with that image in mind now.

I think it's good to put some happy relaxing vibes out there once in a while.  We could all stand to relax sometimes that's for sure.
