Flash Flood Warning

By Cosmic Cairns on November 13, 2024 9:43 pm

Whoever said "May you live in interesting times" was not offering good wishes.  I've lived through enough interesting times now and I don't need anymore.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

These days it feels like the world's upside down
Like good is bad and wrong is right
I thought I understood what's fair and just
I thought the truth was in my sight

Where are the grownups who can set things straight?
Where are all the superheroes now?
Can anybody save us from ourselves?
Seems like the world would rather drown

(Is anyone going to say)

I will flow like the river
Coming down from the mountain
I will try to deliver
Cause I know you're all counting on me
Flow like the river
Coming down from the mountain
Though I may shake and shiver
I'll shoot up like a fountain

And with the fury of the righteous few
Come crashing down like a flash flood
To cleanse the world of its hate and fear
And cure the sickness in our blood

I will flow like the river
On this crisp autumn morning
Overwhelm your defenses
Like the hornets a-swarming
Yes I'll flow like the river
On this glorious morning
All your levies will crumble
This is a flash flood warning

I can feel your pain. The stinking shit it boiling over here too. I hope your flood will flash it away merciless and soon, before it is too late. A brave song, sir.

i keep coming back to this Tolkien quote:

“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

keep flowing like a river, buddy. heart

Whoa! That broken guitar on the right side is wild!!!

Love the strings, birds sounds, drum beat, fun journey!

We must stay centered, the pull between to the poles is a distraction. Well done.

Feels like there was an angry riot before the show and now that it's all clear the kicked in amp gets taped up and the show goes on.  \m/ feel good vibes in trying times!  Excellent guitar solo towards the end too.

I love the left ear, right ear polarised divide! Wonderful sonic metaphor. Great song!

ooof yeah, enough of interesting times. Love the prechorus and the violin throughout. So impressive to make these songs with well thought out lyrics and vocals. Amazing

That sums it up pretty well.

I feel like this foulness is surging around the world.  It's scary, and I don't totally understand why so many people seem to support it.  Hopefully things will swing back in a better direction before too long.

That is a good quote and something to keep in mind as we face whatever lies ahead.

Thanks!  I was playing around with some different distortion settings when I stumbled on that and thought it sounded cool.

This is a good point.  There are a lot of powers that be that would love to have us turn on each other and stay distracted.

Post angry riot and trying to just soldier on with the duct tape and band-aid approach.  That sounds about right.

Thanks!  It's certainly fun to play around with stereo effects and sometimes you can even accidentally make a statement while doing so!

Thanks!  The words flowed out of me pretty easily this week (not unlike a river).  I guess I've had some stuff on my mind.

I agree with your sentiments completely. The shuffle rhythm works everytime. This has a strong forward motion and appropriately doomladen in a strange, jaunty way. The violin adds a lot. All in all, this is strong stuff. I really like the drive and power, if some of it translates to despair. This is great and powerful song in many ways...

Where are all the grownups indeed! Love these lyrics. So cool they just flowed out like a river. Great metaphor here. Agree completely. Keep flowing, lets all keep flowing. Yes to shuffles, it does always work. As a read some of the lyrics I thought of them being yelled over distorted guitars too.

Thanks!  I had a lot of mixed and warring feelings as I did this one.  Definitely some despair but also strangely some defiance.  There often seems to be a push and pull between wanting to fight and wanting to just give up.

It would be interesting to hear a more hardcore take on this.  Maybe even with cookie monster vocals.  Thanks for listening!
