...And that'll do it.  We made it through another year and another round of Weekly Beats!  I came into this year with some trepidation.  I didn't feel like I was in the right headspace to tackle a song a week and I wasn't sure I wanted to do it again, but I decided to just go for it.  I ended up being glad I went for it and mostly enjoying the process this year.  First of all it's always inspiring to listen to everyone else's tracks, so that's a good reason to participate right there.  I know from past experience that sometimes WB can feel like a real obligation and inspiration can run really low, but somehow my inspiration level stayed pretty steady and I generally had a good time working on a track each week.  My big goal was to keep it fun this year and I feel like I was able to do that.  As a bonus I also feel like I can see some tangible improvements in myself over the year and that's always nice.

So what's everyone got planned for 2023?  I think the first thing I'll do is gather up some of the WB tracks I did this year and put together an album.  I'll probably take a little break from doing a song every week, but I do hope to do a decent amount of recording in 2023.  It's been a while since I put together an album that wasn't comprised of tracks I did for WB, so maybe I'll try to do that.  Heck, maybe I'll even spend more than a week on songs, although WB's got me trained into a specific kind of workflow now.  Maybe I'll play around with doing some longer tracks.  Like 15 minutes or more.  Not sure though.

I've also been writing a book that I started a few years ago.  I'm probably about 2/3rds to 3/4ths done with it and I had kind of hoped to finish it in 2022, but I think my creative brain just went full-blown into music mode and I barely worked on the book at all.  So I'm thinking after I put together the first album I might try to switch gears for a bit and focus on finishing that sucker off finally.

As of right now I'm planning on returning for WB 2024, as long as it's a thing and as long as life doesn't throw me any weird curveballs that prevent it.  In the meantime I'll be posting any new albums I do to Bandcamp and probably Spotify, Youtube, etc.  I do have Cosmic Cairns accounts for Facebook and Twitter, although I don't use either one all that often.  My likes/follows are embarrassingly low on both so feel free to throw me a pity like/follow if you want!  smile  I do check them from time to time, so feel free to get in touch.  Especially if you're releasing any albums or videos or new tracks this year.  I'd love to check them out.

Oh yeah, I also did a track for this week.  Here are the lyrics:
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
There is no breeze today, it's quiet here
All the butterflies are gone
An echo fades away across the lake
And gets lost in the sun

Seems like a good note to go out on
It's been real but now it's time to go
Don't want to wear out any welcomes
And knowing when to quit is something to aim for
Something not everyone gets

The moon is almost full and Jupiter
Is lingering nearby
And on the horizon a comet's tail
Stretches across the sky

There were many things here worth experiencing
I'm glad I saw some sunsets along the way
If I can I will try to remember
Storm clouds only hide away the sun and the stars
But they're still where they are all the time

A bright red exit sign looms overhead
Illuminates a door
And I may hesitate but not for long
I can't resist the pull

Even if I wanted to stay forever
The river of time just keeps chugging along
No one's able to escape its current
Gotta go wherever it wants and that is not here
This is merely a step along the way

Congrats!  Always worth doing it as it's quite an accomplishment when you get the end of the year and great for productivity.

I've got a bunch of stuff lined up this year.  From being a judge on a film festival, curating a series of concerts, a new live ensemble and another release with my long running death metal band, Tzun Tzu.  There'll be more stuff that'll pop up too I'm sure.

Have a good one!

Wow!  Sounds like you've got a busy and productive year lined up.  Good luck with everything and hope it's a good one for you as well!

A sweet caress of a song to end on the most beautiful note! heart
So glad to hear of the plans to put together an album and the book, too(i'm heading straight into 'Jamuary' now... will play it day by day big_smile), excited to check out more and more from you!
Congrats on 52 weeks and Happy New Year!

Thanks again for your generous comments and very true and unique tracks!

Wish you an awesome 2023! Take care.

Another year, another parting. May we meet again later. Glad to have had you here for the year (and almost on tempo, too). Happy new year.

congratulations for completing the challange with your excellent exit track. in my opinion your productions really were progredient well-engineered with infinite nice variations of fantastic sonic ideas. the tracks are steady in the unique charming style of cosmiccairns, the lyrics and your vocals are outstanding and gave me a good time to listen to. Yes, you should make a best of album.
I just started a new job, but do not have any plans for 2023. I will make some order on my harddrives and will record from time to time something, when I am in the mood. there are some instruments I have neglected the last years. maybe I do something with organ, sitar, harmonica and violin. we will see.
I thank you, for beeing with me through all the year. I am looking forward to 2024, when you will be back.
stay healthy and happy new year.

Great song, has a somewhat nostalgic but still happy and optimistic vibe for me. I like the lyrics - kind of a metaphor for WB, or other endings and exits. You're a great writer, I look forward to to your novel!
Glad you'll be back here in 2024, I will as well. I'll keep my eyes out for any new album postings too. I love the idea of some longer songs. I want to do some longer songs too, going to post some with some nature video footage. Some mellow stuff people can trip out too.
So long for now, and thanks for all the good tunes and stories, and all the supportive comments!!

Really enjoyed listening to your tunes this year. Congrats on making it to the end. This one's another charmer. Love the "something to aim for" melody...

I love how this track teeters on becoming chaos, but just holds it together to wrap up the year. lovely song heart Happy new year!

It definitely was a productive and creative year.  This track is proof in it's lyrics and instrumentation.  A good summary of this year.  Those sound like good plans for the new year.  Good luck on finishing your album and book and Happy New Year! smile

It would be very cool to hear you come back in 2024 with all of those instruments in your toolkit.  I can only imagine what sorts of sounds you will form out of them.

Thanks!  I've been enjoying the downtime so far in 2023, but I'm sure the itch to create will start to take over soon.  Happy New Year to you as well and good luck in your endeavors!

congratulations on finishing another year!
i'm also curious about spending more than 1 week on a song - it would feel weird at this point - but perhaps a good challenge for 2023!
best wishes for all your creative projects in 2023!

I agree it would feel weird to take longer than a week.  Almost like I would have to artificially slow myself down.  But it also might be good for paying attention to details.  Could possibly lead to some good results.  Best wishes to you as well!
