Escaping the Machine

By Cosmic Cairns on June 8, 2022 9:01 pm

Sometimes life makes you feel trapped in various ways.  This is a song about breaking out.

Attach the chains
It's back to this again
Just the same old thing
I'm bleeding dry my veins

Stuck in the machine for way too long
Don't want to get crushed and I don't think that's wrong

Behind locked doors
I'm back again for more
Don't know what I do this for
I'll fall down on the floor

Stuck in the machine for way too long
I'm gonna get out and I don't think that's wrong

Today's the day
When I'll make my escape
No one will suspect a thing
As I just slip away

A wonderful revelation with a big philosophical approach. Musically impressing, making tempochanges, letting the saw cry and offering this epic solo at 2:21. I love your style.

the juxtaposition of all the parts is really fun and interesting & well you know i love the saw!  it was really fun in the mix - you got this punk rocker!

The bridge post second chorus is crazy good, going to half-time section w/ all the cocktail party effect chatter is really effective (I'm jealous, but in a good way). Not sure if intentional, but the "classic" sound of the slower sections comes across w/ a sense of musical irony given the complete lack of hope in every verse accompanying it. All hope leads to punk is what I'm hearing, and I don't think that's wrong. heart

P.S. (Your saw is the shit and I love hearing it. Would you ever be open to some saw playing on a weirdo electronic track?)

Thanks!  Tempo changes are fun.  I need to play around with them a little more I think.

Hard not to love the saw.  It just seemed like it wanted to be part of this one.

All hope really could lead to punk!  As far as playing saw on a weirdo electronic track, yes absolutely!

Fun, gosh I relate to the stuckness. I especially like the crunchier rollicky chorus, something about a big old catchy chorus to really drive it home. yay for the saw again.

these mood swings are relatable, and so is the theme
I would change the last line tho, it can have some unfortunate implications
maybe change it to "as I break the chains" or something to come full circle?

Thanks!  I do enjoy a good chorus for sure.  As you say it can super drive it home.

In my mind it was kind of uplifting, but I can see how one might interpret it in a darker fashion.  I'll give that some thought.

Yay the Saw returns!  Excellent relatable lyrics and the Saw just adds to the change in moods.  Well done!

It felt like a saw kind of track.  Thanks for listening!

Love the punk rock energy! Great blending of different styles. How do you play that damn saw totally in tune? Never thought about it before but it is so melodic in this track.

Thanks!  As far as playing the saw in tune it's a bit just going by ear and also you sort of get the feel after awhile for how much to bend it to get the note you need.

What a beautiful fun pop track! I like how it goes into distortion universe and then goes back into a relaxed pace, with a musical saw!

Thanks!  It was a lot of fun to change up the vibe between relaxed and aggressive on this one.
