Crayfish Piston

By Cosmic Cairns on August 16, 2024 1:04 am

A mostly instrumental adventure.  I kind of wanted to make a little bit of a racket, but I also kind of wanted to be a little mellow, so I sort of did both.

In other news we decided to adopt a dog.  We're used to having two doggies and the house has felt a little empty since we lost Johnny about a month ago, so we pulled the trigger and got a cairn terrier (our older dog George is also a cairn and this is where I got the name Cosmic Cairns from).  Rockie's only a year and a half and has a ton of energy and gets into a lot of mischief.  It's kind of like having a toddler in the house.  It's a way different dynamic from what we had with two older, mellow dogs, and I'm not sure George knows what to make of the new guy yet, but hopefully once Rockie settles in a bit more he'll chill out a little bit.

Anyway, hope it's been a good productive week for everyone.

Wow! This is really rocking!

welcome to the family, Rockie! another Cosmic Cairn.
i wasn't familiar with that breed and just looked them up, holy CUTENESS.
you jumped right in with this one! i felt that beginning section in my TEETH
and what a cool outro  big_smile

I am happy for you, adopting a second cairn doggy. In this track I can feel the energy that comes from him. Also the part from 2.30 on, sounds like he is begging for a reward. Well done.

I hope your pup has a little less energy than this song! A rollicking good time smile

Aww yay Rockie!  Cosmic Cairns in full effect on this track! \m/  Immediate lift-off with the intro and then we get above the clouds at 2:16 to witness the beautiful view ahead.  Love those chords with your vocals.

hellll yeah, this rocks! Congrats on the new dog!

That fuzzy riser is great! It feels like playing a F1 game in the 80s. Good raw rock drum beat. The layering comes in, more power, excitement! I can figure a whole band of animals playing a lot of instruments all over the place before letting the dog in the front with a guitar play the calm section at 2:25. This feels like an Animal Crossing party. Congratulations for the new dog!

congrats on the new cairn - fun to hear the name origin story

I wasn't familiar with them either until my wife introduced me to them.  She had a cairn terrier named Charlie when I first met her, who I also fell head over heels for and we have had cairns ever since.  They are a great breed.  The most famous cairn terrier is Toto from the Wizard of Oz.  Also, glad I could get your teeth rocking!!!

Thanks!  He definitely likes to get rewards.

Thanks!  He's starting to settle in a bit, but still has some energetic outbursts from time to time.

Thanks!  I like the image of rising above the clouds and taking in the view.

I like the idea of the animal band.  Thanks!

So the full name origin story is that around 2013, I decided I wanted to have a band name instead of just recording under my own name.  At that point we'd had two cairn terriers and they were both just the greatest dogs.  I've also always had an interest in space and the universe, and I like alliterative sounds, so thus I came up with Cosmic Cairns.
