Clouds Dwarf the Mountains

By Cosmic Cairns on July 13, 2018 10:35 pm

I didn't have a ton of time this week, so I knocked this thing out quickly.  Pretty much everything was done in one take.  I started with a couple guitar improvs, added a bass, then a bit of microkorg, then finally added a bit of vocals, harmonica, and ocarina.  The title came from some cool cloud formations I saw when I was driving into work the other day.  There were these huge puffy clouds hanging over the mountains in the distance and they looked to be two or three times taller than them.  I tried to picture that while I was jamming out the guitar lines.

jealous of your commute with mountain view. glad i got to experience them empathically through your track though!

Some lovely guitar work! Very organic. The overall effect is... towering.

Yeah I guess it's not the worst commute in the world.  There's some decent scenery to look at sometimes, especially if there's cool cloud formations like that.

Thanks!  It was very "off the cuff" but sometimes it's kind of nice to create like that.

You drove into work? Your co-workers must've been very confused. I guess that's what happens when you're looking at clouds while driving.

I don't know what that chirping is, but I feel it needs to mellow out a bit. Everything else is solid.

They wouldn't be confused if I worked at a drive-in movie theater... which I don't.  So needless to say it was absolute chaos.  The chirping sound is most likely the ocarina.  Yeah, I guess it isn't strictly "necessary" but I kind of wanted to add some sort of different sonic texture near the end and I just happened to see the ocarina sitting on my desk and grabbed it.

Pretty little journey here, hypnotic. Nice to picture the giant clouds while listening. Captures that cloud gaze feeling.

Cool, thanks! Glad to hear some of the "looking at clouds" feel came through, or at least that idea works well in conjunction with the song.  smile

My favourite song with Dwarf in the title thus far.. . .. very good C.c

Pretty nice track, from the beginning, with this nice guitar melody, to the end, with this more crazy ocarina.
Really a song to watch the ky and dream wink.

Thanks!  More songs should have Dwarf in the title as far as I'm concerned.  smile

Thanks!  It's good to watch the sky and dream every once in awhile I think.

It sounds like you imagined the song and then played it backwards. This song has a reversed quality to it. Does that sound crazy? Evolves into a collage of interesting instrumental textures.

That's a really cool image.  I might actually have to try doing that for real.  smile

The guitar effects and hi-hat ticks give it a daydreamy feel especially when the harmonica comes in.  I can definitely see myself staring off into the distance mesmerized by BIG fluffy clouds.  Nice work!

Thanks!  That's definitely the effect I was trying to go for.  smile
