Celebrity Chef Demolition Derby

By Cosmic Cairns on May 22, 2024 8:47 pm

I felt like I could stand to lighten things up a little bit, so I went with a silly idea I had about celebrity chefs driving around in cars and smashing into each other.  I didn't want to sample any actual celebrity chefs, so I created my own fictional ones using AI voices from ElevenLabs.  I used to watch a bit of cooking competition and restaurant review shows on Food Network like Chopped and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, so I have a decent sense of the kind of wacky phrases the personalities on these shows would say and had fun getting the AI voices to say them.  And then I added some squealing tires and crashing sounds.  I don't know where this fits in the pantheon of music I've made, but it was a lot of fun.

In other news, I got through my live show!  It went pretty good overall, especially since I haven't played live in, like, I don't even know... ten years? More? I flubbed a few lyrics and I flubbed a few chords, but every time I felt off my game I centered myself and just got back into the song and the music gods provided.  Added bonus, I didn't realize it was a paying gig (even though all gigs should be) and I scored an unexpected $50 for my efforts.  I also saw a few people I haven't seen in a long time and got to catch up and reminisce, so it was a good experience, and maybe I'll get back up there again sooner rather than later.

It is such a gift to be able to explore things like this and still have tons of fun. And I'll tell you, the fun 100% comes through, this is VERY fun, hahahaha... I absolutely love the concept of celeb chef types just ramming into each other, hahahaha...

Also, congrats on the gig!!! That's awesome news! The leader of my former samba marching band used to say that messing up during performances is the most common thing ever. The skill we really need to work on, however, is coming back from those minor flubs and get back into the groove, which, from your description, it sounds like you were able to do every time smile

Congrats on the gig! (and on getting paid big_smile)
speaking of playing live, this track holds a beautiful live fist-pumping energy to it, too smile
to so many more!

Good news to hear about the show and you having fun. You deserve this. This is a crazy powerful number in a Kedbreak136 style with Monty Python humor.

great lines hahahha
bassline and also voice lines included! esp the italian ones hahahha

Haha this is fantastic! The voice samples, cars samples, and guitar riffs are wonderful mishmash of magic and love. That end feels also like foley sounds from vintage cartoons.

Awesome to hear that your show went well! It must have been a great time!

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I'M GETTING HUNGRY
super fun concept and execution! and congrats on the show, glad you were able to get out there and reconnect in that mode  smile

ha, this is so fun! Who cares where it fits in the pantheon.

Also congrats on the live show and rebuilding those flub recovery muscles!

this is a wild ride cc - congrats on the show!

Yeah, I don't know how the idea of the celebrity chefs slamming into each other came to me, but it made me laugh so I knew I had to go with it.  It's true about performance, too.  If you mess up, you just have to keep going.  I think I learned that at a pretty young age when I used to play violin recitals.  The crazy part is even though you feel like you messed up bad, a lot of times if you just keep going the audience won't even notice.

Monty Python has undoubtedly had an influence on my sense of humor.  I came up with the voices super early on in the process, but at the end it seemed like it needed something more to sell the cars crashing into each other, so the last thing I added was the car and tire sound effects.  Once it all came together it did remind me a bit of some of Kedbreak136's work.  So perhaps it ended up a bit of a homage!

Thanks!  The voices were fun to play with and the Italian one was one of my favorites.

Thanks!  It was a lot of fun to put together, and as Q-Rosh pointed out, it may indeed pay some tribute to your style.

I really liked the way that voice delivered that line.  Just for fun I typed in huuuuunnnnngry, and I think the voice did a good job of selling it.

Sometimes fun is all that matters.  And yes, those flub recovery muscles are super important!

Oh yeah, there is a bit of a celebrity deathmatch vibe to this ala Kedbreak.  The ending was pretty much just a crazy synth sound I found and just rode it.

Nicely silly concept! Tarantino could make a movie out of this. Very nice to hear about your pleasant live concert experience… i am sure it has given you a new inspirations. No better way to see what works and how….

hahaha, I cracked up when those samples came in. This is the shiznit! Great concept and creation here. Ha, we need some fun light things sometimes. We sure do.

Congrats on the gig! The music gods will provide!

It would be cool to see the Tarantino version of this.  It was fun to sing a few songs on stage and work out that live music part of the brain that I've neglected for way too long.  It would take some logistics and/or recruiting more band members to really try to do an accurate representation of a lot of my songs, but it's also kind of cool to strip away the bells and whistles and see how a song holds up with just me and an acoustic guitar.

Thanks!  I definitely need to make room for some laughs sometimes and this idea was silly enough that I just couldn't resist it.
