Backwards Maps

A mix of a few ideas that sort of combined themselves into one track.

I don't know, but I've been told
The justice system's bought and sold
The laws are set and they won't budge
Unless you buy yourself a judge

We gotta go backwards so we can move forwards
You gotta turn sideways just to save the day
And it gets confusing the path we keep losing
We need backwards maps just to find our way

With all the different sections of this track, this feels like a joyous enormous jam with friends, including the folk people, the rock guys, and the bagpipe people. It's all taking place on a beach, everyone barefoot in the sand. The sun is going down and this dawn feels eternal, in a good way.

love that "flute in a pipe" synth preset

OOOO the vocal breakdown is SO good - great harmonies

watch this on mute and listen to your track, it works so well

I love how this starts kind of like a circus/carnival, and then you start talking about the justice system. Just perfect! Hahahahaha... I needed to hear this right now, thank you smile

Love the variety of sounds and instruments used in this fun song.  Lots of awesome vocal harmonies too.  All the lil vocal dah-dahs are so fun! smile

A nice and appropriate way to speak out important facts. It is not rage against the machine, but goes in the same direction.

Backwards Maps is a genius invention.

=Love the arrangement, so many cool parts! Great impactful lyrics with an unexpected musical pairing for the message, very fun

I like the imagery you've conjured here.  People of all stripes really do need to put their differences aside, come together, and make some beautiful music.

LOL!  I have no idea where you found that video or what made you think to put it with this track, but it does work well.  Thanks for listening!

Yeah, the justice system's been on my mind a bit lately.  And it does seem like a circus, so that's a fitting analogy.

Sometimes it's nice to just dah-dah out in some vocals.  If I could, I would have Beach Boys style harmonies on a lot more songs.

Thanks!  I tend to like to use music as escapism more than dealing with reality, but sometimes it just feels appropriate to comment on real world issues.

Thanks!  I think sometimes when talking about "serious" stuff, it's nice to have a little sugar to go with the medicine.

It's kind of sad that I would take Pee-Wee Herman as a judge in a heartbeat over what we actually have.  I believe he would have much more competence and integrity.

Saying something serious, but in a fun and light song, always good! Thanks for the good words, and the fun tune. Fun stuff. That video did kind of go well, haha. Love the ba ba ah ahhhs ... haha, fun. Those are always good too.

Thanks!  Sometimes you've got to say something a little serious, but it always goes down better with some ba bas.
