a hideout

here we have a 3-second sample from a tape recording of me around 1990, saying "Jeder kann sich mal verspielen, ja?" that I slowed down and filtered in the iOS app Gauss. I found some delicious crackling in the process while sweeping through with a band filter, and added a crackly voice from the Complex-1 soft synth. eq-ing, basic rhythm, fades, compression etc., although there are some differences in loudness based on the evolving nature of the whole thing.

i was going to just name it "crackle" but then thought that might be too prosaic, so i went with the image that came to my mind: a mutant child hiding out inside a giant computer on the moon. i mean, obviously.

hope you enjoy as much as i did making it.

Nice experimental workflow. I also love revisiting old material especially from tapes and reels I have stored my whole life.

god damn I love this.  I have no idea what you did, but your synth sounds like tones coming from electricity.  so good

ooh that crackle is NICE
what a cool and fruitful experiment. super cool headphone candy

Thanks man! I find it so interesting to go down to the space between the songs, and the stuff that was recorded accidentally, and expand on that.

thank you! its certainly best with headphones :-)

Great, great sounds. Love the tasteful use of kick to give it a pulse. Builds really nicely, well done!

I had to hear the inspiration for littlebigmosaic's mix this week. Really cool experimenting here.  Love the crackle and pop and the warpness that definitely translated into the other mix.  This community is great for collaboration.
