Another week, dialed in. Unfortunately, it's a speed trash week. They can't all be winners!
This whole week was really a calibration and tuning experiment, hah.
I spent the first half of my free time learning how to use a multimeter and calibrate the nerdseq. It was quite out of tune!
I spent the next couple nights resoldered a module I bought a few years back that never worked correctly, a Mutable Instruments "Edges". It has 4 separate chip-inspired low-fidelity oscillators. I got it working properly! So needless to say, I wanted to test it out on this weeks' beat.
I didn't have time for a big composition, so I chose to work with the ornament and crime program "harrington 1200" to generate chords pitches to run through the individual oscillators on the Edges. It's based on neo-riemannian triad transformations, which I know nothing about. As soon as it didn't sound like garbage I added some stochastic envelopes cycling through the triad notes and ran it all through a modulating filter and then a tape emulator.
I added the kick and bass, some hats, and messed around with an ms20 on top. Recorded 5 minutes and cut it down under 2. Didn't spend much time with editing. I think I'll reuse all the components for next week, but spend more time on the composition and sound design.
Take care y'all!
