improv 9 — alluvial plain

By Coauctor on March 4, 2018 10:08 pm

Improvising for Weekly Beats. My self-imposed limitations:

• Digital piano as an input device (Yamaha P35)
• Moderately limited warm-up before the recording
• No edits after the recording is made
• Four VSTs for the year, one for each season

Doing this to explore improvisation as a practice of being here and now

This one is new and a bit shallow. I tried something completely different.
Less notes, more spaces. New modular synth easy to pick up by novices.
I also recorded arms separately but still applying the rules above.

My mental image for this one: grey alluvial plain formed by a river.

Spring VST: Lumikko by Native Instruments

Wow, glad you liked it! Also, glad some people have ambient fantasies. :3

Very nice smile there was some surprising notes I enjoyed. This piece feels more cyberpunk to me so I couldn't unify with your mental image this time. Maybe gray alluvial plain formed by a river studded with neon light emitting buildings big_smile

Nice work, perhaps a third layer wouldn't hurt somewhere, maybe you can recruit another set of hands.

No problems, the more variations, the better. smile
And it's ok to have neon buildings near the plain.

Seems like Lumikko is good with providing additional hands! Arpeggios are nice in this one. Actually, this is the reason I tried this "granular synthesis" stuff. What if my hands can have more hands.

This was the first try.

Nice work! This is lovely for its simplicity. I'd not have guessed that it was improvised, seems like a very well considered arrangement.

This is the best compliment, thank you. To improvise as seamlessly and fluidly as while planning a track is one of my goals.

really lovely - put me in a trance

I agree I wouldn't have known this was an improvisation.  Such a calm soothing atmosphere created by the synth. Nice job!
