OP-XY amber

By circuit_breaks on December 15, 2024 10:17 pm

Something a little out of my wheelhouse this week, I decided to try to make some generative ambient using the OP-XY and the Brain feature.  The notes I input were extremely minimal, and I let the brain do a lot of the work.  It actually took a little bit of fiddling and a lot of listening to make something that sounds good.  Hopefully the final mix isn't too muddy.

As someone who’s done months of generative or semi-generative tunes this year, definitely seems like something that should be in your wheelhouse.

Very pretty, and I think the sparse use of the other elements really helps them to stand out. The note length difference is another immediate thing I reach for that you’ve got going here… it’s all in tempo but big swells and long notes contrasted with those little bursts of 16ths in places is rad

wow, thanks for the confidence boost!  the 16th notes are all one note, but the OP-XY randomizes both the note's pitch and whether it plays, which leads for endless note patterns that play when I just have the machine playing the song on loop.  I am happy with the notes that were played while I did the recording, but have heard some amazingly beautiful little patterns!

there's a very threatening aura about this
