Running from Tomorrow

This turned out a lot different then what I was going for when I started writing it, but I don't hate it.  Definitely a lot more emotional then my usual style, but I think it works.  I might want to touch up the arrangement a bit, shorten up the intro and figure out how to break up the end so its not so repetitive.

I got to try out a couple new techniques on this one that I've been wanting to play with for a bit.  Automating a stereo spreader on the master to make the choruses sound bigger, and creating realistic(ish) artificial harmonies by pitch shifting a copy of the main vocal and compensating with formant.  Still need to work on those to get them sounding better but I definitely think I'll be using them in the future.

That's some pretty wistful guitar playing.  The articulation is totally enchanting.

God damn, your song writing is so great. Another banger dude,

Thanks man, much appreciated!  I definitely spent a lot of time editing the timing on it too, glad it paid off.

Glad you like it man.  Yeah, this one like oddly wrote itself.  I was going for something The Nationalesque but landed a little off target, but hey it worked.

You are taking me back! this track has a lot of mid-90s sensibilities, incredibly lovely compo and arrangement heart

Hell yeah man beautiful atmosphere created.  The guitar sounds great.  The vocals are A+.  The harmonies sound good too!  Hard to believe they're "not real".  Agreed on your songwriting abilities as well...you can crank out hit week after week.  Nice work man

First off, great aesthetic & pro production value as usual. I hear that stereo separation, that is a super cool effect.

The pitch shift harmony sounds good - I do this all the time, it can be Super Effective. The song itself had me grooving to work, had to go back and a listen a second time. Nice work, man.

As always. Well done Foo. Well done. Letmelaydownsomedrumsonthetrack *cough* *cough* (Those are not covid coughs I promise).

What can I say, you left a power vacuum in the 80s/90s genre that was just waiting to be filled.  Better me than ISIS.  Haha, thanks man.

Thanks man!  Yeah, I totally agree on the harmonies.  I like recording them separately but it drives me nuts when the timing is off a tid bit.

Dude, you're not coming anywhere near this track for at least 14 days.  Cant take any chances, not in this economy.  Haha, I was thinking about asking you but I was doubting myself on the arrangement up till like right before submission.  If this track makes my next EP I'll for sure need some help.  Also, I got some good news financially so a cheapo electric drum kit is on my list of potential presents to myself.  I'll need some help getting spooled up if I go through with it.

Whoa, beautiful vocals and harmonies.  Great work on those new effects, really sound well produced and transparent. Gives me a Neil Finn vibe which is a very high compliment in my book.  I am floored with what you are able to achieve... a real pleasure to check out each week!  Well done!

Damn nice song, but could definitely do with a little spice.

Fantastic songwriting, this is great. The arrangement is really nice too, I like that gap and reverse into the final part, great touch.

Great stuff man! Those harmonies work great. What are you using to pitch shift/change the formant? Reminds me of this great Jamie Lidell clip where he records harmonies with the track at different speeds.

Right on, what kind of spice are we thinking?

Haha, I had to think about what this song had to do with a lizard for like a minute before I realized it’s just the running part you were getting at.

Thanks dude!  Nothing that advanced, but that sounds super cool.  I’m just doing it in Logic Flex pitch, which if you’re not a Logic user, is essentially the same as Melodyne or Waves Tune.

Bit of salt, maybe some pepper, and a pinch of woodwind.

Definitely feeling those mid90s vibes from your vocals and harmonies.  The bass line is awesome and really glues the whole thing together.  Nice work!

Thanks!  I wasnt going for the 90s thing but now after a few people have mentioned it, I can definitely see it.
