Pulling the Strings

By Chrisfoo on March 29, 2020 10:54 pm

Thought it's be fun to do a little collab with @Saucey-dough (drums), and my buddy Geoff (vocals) this week.

When I approached Geoff about doing a song together, I asked him to do the vocals, but to please not write about being quarantined (as like every musician I follow on instagram has done a quarantine song in the past week). So he sends me the vocals today and says they're not about being quarantined, but they're open to interpretation.  So fast forward a couple hours; Geoff's out of the fucking band.

But in all seriousness, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.  It would have been ideal if we could have recorded it all and mixed it in one session, but I still think it came out pretty good.  I'm definitely open to teaming up on more tracks with some folks, so let me know if anyone's interested.

This is an incredible collab!  I'd love to collab but I suck and ask Tweaklab about what it's like to get me to follow through.  JK PLEASE DO NOT ASK HIM

Joke: THIS IS A GREAT QUARANTINE THEMED SONG

It's really incredible to hear beautiful tracks like this coming together despite the world's circumstances these days.  Wonderful work, both to you and your collab partners!

Ahh what a nice texture, so light and full at the same time. The lyrics are sick, all quarantine aside. This is lovely.

I'm not the best person for collabs but I'd be up for remixing this!

March 30, 2020 2:52 am

Dude your music always amazes me.  I've said it before but a lot of your tracks remind me of My Morning Jacket.  Such a wide and bright sound.  You definitely have a signature sound and I love it.  Nice job on this!

I'd love to collab with you sometime.

Hell yea man. I had a ton of fun doing this. Music is meant to bring people together. Its fun writing solo tracks, but its daunting, time consuming, and truth be told...exhausting. I  have a new sense of energy when a collab comes together this strong. Lets keep it going man.

Killer collab, this is pro stuff! big_smile You guys make a kickass band! I love the piano and the accordion-like synth a lot heart

March 30, 2020 7:29 pm

Holy shit, just beautiful man! Magnificent intro. Great vocals and playing. Especially those bass and piano parts. Great collaboration.  You guys are killing it!

March 30, 2020 11:39 pm

I love how "plingy" the piano sounds, it adds a really different groove to the way the song flows.  Really loved the first time hearing the abrupt stop of the music before the chorus too.  Vocals are fucking outstanding as well.  Really well put together piece of music

I love it, dudes, great job. Big fan of the bass and the piano.

Absolutely man. Good thing being locked in the house is a good jump start for projects like this.

Thanks man!  If you ever feel compelled to remix anything I put out, let me know.  That'd be awesome!

Yeah man, I'd totally be down. Add me on FB or instagram if you're on there so we can talk about it. I'm Foo Williams on both.

I know what you mean.  I've been burned out these last few weeks with work, but this was a lot of fun.

Thanks man!  And funny you should point out that synth.  I added that like 15 min before bounce because I thought the verses could be filled out a little more.  I just threw Logics stock poly synth on there and tweaked it for like 2 min tops without any previous plan.  It works though!

Thanks man, yeah I doubled the piano with synth in a couple places to change up the tone a bit.  And my buddy Geoff totally killed the vocals, I'm pumped with how they came out, especially the chorus.

Thanks dude!  Glad you liked it.  I hope the rest of us Chicago dudes can get down on some tracks this year.

I don't have either.  I have a Twitter account that I shitpost on, do you have Twitter?  Otherwise we could correspond through good 'ol fashioned email.  Also, since you know Sauce and Hardy and my brother, I'm assuming you're somewhere in the Chicagoland area?  We could always meet up too (oh wait...coronavirus).  I think a collab with you would be fuckin' awesome.  It's always fun to get together with someone and see how they do things.  I'm sure we could pick up a few tricks from each other.

Shit this is wonderful, powerful vocals and so many layers, including that square wave. The vocals heavy on the left is messing with me a little though.

Nah no Twitter but hit me up at [email protected] or 224-875-2397.  I’m almost done with mine for this week but if you’ve got anything you want to team up on let me know.  Or we can start fresh next week!  And yeah, I’m here I’m Chicago.  I was telling Sauce we’ve got to get a Chicagoland WB dudes hang some time soon (or after the whole quarantine thing now I guess).

This is really nicely made, very cool melodies and great vocals.

Heck, this is a good one man. Such a big tune. Its a real 'end of movie' vibe.

April 3, 2020 3:27 pm

Heard a bit of this a few days ago via your IG feed.  Totally felt a wave of warmth and positivity on those opening chords.  It reminded me a bit of Snow Patrol and how it has a very anthemic sound to it.  The piano parts really tie it together.  Excellent collab!

Awesome man!  I need to learn how to export my tracks as stem files, but I feel like that would be a super useful thing to learn anyways.  Once I figure it out I’ll send it over!
