Ambient as Fuck

By cfurrow on February 23, 2014 9:28 pm

I started last week digging into some older stuff to see if I could whip something into shape in time for the deadline. Nothing was clicking so I started fiddling on my iPad with some textures created from a kalimba sample imported into Sector and then into Samplewiz. I imported these sounds into Ableton and started piling some beats, bass, lap steel, vocals, some guitar, etc. into the mix. Eventually, I started chiseling away and ended up with this.

Damn.  I think you've outdone yourself on this one.  This is sick.

Really dreamy atmosphere here. Kind of reminds of something you would here on triple J but twice as good.

the progressing beat is awesome, sounds are super sweeeeet and vocal work fits perfectly. Great track all in all!

Great tune!

Great track! I like the slow progression, and foggy (yet joyful) atmosphere. Great work!

wow, really incredible one this week. i am in love with those vocals - whatever treatment you used was perfect. real shoegazy and lush, right up my alley.

Whatever you're doing with the stereo field here is intensely disorienting and awesome.  Great hook, slippery arrangement, and melodies.  Excellent work!

sweet!

instantly love the beat/bass that starts it off.  That main underwater-like synth pad is awesome.  Reminds me a bit of Sufjan Stevens in the way there are multiple melodies, loops, beats all playing off each other at once.  The vocals also sit really nice throughout everything.  Slide-synth 4tw! Well done once again!! smile

yeah I agree this is really extremely hardcore-wise ambient'ish and horribly good. smashingly relaxing and intensely soothing to my ears

Fantastic, wasn't expecting such a Grizzly Bear vibe (yeah and sufjan stevens...), very welcome. An impressive week's work, love it.

thanks, preciouskindred! I ended up using a hint of the Ableton Amp and Resonator. I used the Brooklyn setting with a few tweaks (since I live there). Silly smile

Thanks for the lovely comments. I've got a good comment buzz going on. smile  I definitely dig what Sufjan Stevens does as well as Grizzly Bear. Thanks again.

Thank you, Plantrain. I appreciate that. smile

Love, love, LOVE the use of busy beats that still retain (or even add to a deeper sense of) the ambient lushness all around. A beauty!
