Organic Sink

I'm not sure if people appreciate the blog style format, but at this point it's too late now... This week I was short on time. I turned to the Dirtywave M8, as I knew I could have very focused short sessions. It was nice to get reacquainted with the device and the new 6.5 firmware features.

For this track I picked Bjork's Cocoon as reference, one of my favorite of hers. In the beginning, I thought it would be interesting to create a "mishearing" of the track from memory, but ended up abandoning that and borrowing the scale and starting note, and some of the feel.

For the main "drum" part I found a forgotten recording I took on my phone of walking near an icy lake near Half Dome.

The rest is: a filtered "kick_edward" from the DW01 Synthdrums pack, the main keys are the "Rhodey Mk2" from user @Pantler on the Dirtywave Discord (thank you both!). The two intermittent sounds I made with macrosyn's partical noise and hypersyn. Title by M8's random name generator.

Finally, and almost not ending up in the mix, is a chopped, pitched and panned sample from this freesound user.

Likewise on feeling inspired! I get the same from your submissions and EP you posted, I feel we share a lot of the same influences. Thank you for the poem.

We love the blog-style format!  Crediting the synth patches that you used is especially fascinating, as I'm familiar with the DW01 KICK and it's really interesting to hear the different context in which they can be used.  The minimal arrangement really works to show off the drum sequencing work in this case, but the EPs really glue everything together.  It's so hypnotic and peaceful!

I love the raindrop-like delicacy of these beatz!
