Week 3, you were tough. I much appreciate the kind comments from last week, some I've yet to follow up on.

This week I turned to a small eurorack that I've been putting together, I ended up only using Just Friends as a poly synth voice into Nearness to place the voices across the stereo field. This was sequenced by a port of Kria on the Norns/Grid. I added a pad from the Plinky synth, making use of the accelerometer onboard to modulate the rate of the lfo/filter as I tilt the device. There's some piano down in the mix along with a patch from Fors Chiral.

I created a drum rack in Ableton and experimented with some stacked effects, throwing some randomness into the sequence. This is probably the part I'm least happy with, as I felt it got a bit too repetitive, or tiresome, even with the randomness applied.

Thanks for listening.

are you kidding, this is beautiful

Thanks so much for listening. It's comments like these that help me listen again with new ears, and allow me to hear more than what I thought didn't work. Much appreciate the kindness.

At 0:50 when that stuttery voice comes in -- huge emotional moment, love it. I am trying to figure out how to do that, the build up, the timing, the choice of sound.  Very nicely done!

so lush, really great melodic structure and nice use of stereo field to give it so much atmosphere

Thanks so much, very kind. For the stuttery voice I was browsing through plinky patches and used this patch as a starting point. It clicked when I discovered the filter/lowpass gate and modulation of its sustain was mapped to the accelerometer, it made adding expression quick and intuitive as I held the device in my hand. That was discovered by accident! Although, I will admit it did take some practice to line up, and there is some issues with the rate fighting the tempo of the song.

If you wanted to replicate something like it on a subtractive synth, a very simplified version could be mapping a modulation (lfo/cycling envelope) to your amp/vca with rate control to get the slow/fast stutters and controlling a slower rising/falling one to your filter cuttoff, then send it though some reverb.
