WIP in Dmaj

By Bunjigram on August 11, 2024 11:44 pm

Yep, once again I waited to the last minute to work on something for this week (which is pitiful considering I missed last week).  Anywho, because of my procrastinating, I just have a simple little WIP (work in progress) in Dmaj that I'm hoping to expand on when I'm not rushed. Trying out another new V.3 patch from Arturia as well. Thanks for any feedback. Look forward to hearing what's new this week. - RCN

Love the melody of this…simple and pure. Do you ever add lyrics to your music? I could see this one wanting words smile

Thanks for the comment.  Simple and pure are good descriptors I think.  I’ve never really written lyrics for my music, but I do occasionally write poetry, which inspires some of my tracks.  My daughter is the singer-songwriter and my son the EDM composer.  Probably a collab in there somewhere.  lol

Lovely calming melody that gives me space to breathe and relax for a bit.  Really enjoyed the higher part of the melody at 1:02.  Oooh and neato reading your comment, you have a family band collab waiting to happen! smile

Thanks for the feedback, TM.  That’s helpful as I’m trying to re-work this into more of a real song with some structure. I want it to be calming with simplicity and space, so seems like I might be on the right track.  I keep hoping for a collab with the kiddos someday.  We’ll see.

i'm a sucker for major 7s...
this is such a tender piece. like i just instantly FEEL BETTER.
thank you  heart

and agree, the melody would very much lend itself to a vocal.
i can actually Tom Waits singing over this in my head!

Thanks, that’s quite a compliment when you’re told that your music makes someone “feel better”. I think major 7s and sus chords have a way of doing that too.  Yep, I’m trying to rework this into a real song and may do so with the idea of it carrying lyrics as some point.  Thanks for listening.

Agree with Tone Matrix about the high part at 1:02 and jwh about making me feel better. Also agree with Paisley frog about the family collab someday smile nice upload. Seems like the D scale is calling out to you lately

Well this is just a lovely piece.  I also really like the higher section around 1:00.  This very much has a church hymn/worship music vibe to it, in like all the best ways.  Lovely and peaceful.  Given that its a work in progress, one thing you might try to add a little variation and color, is to put in a deceptive cadence.  So like before the higher section, if on the third time around on the chord progression, instead of resolving to the D, you resolved to a Bm, then use the darker tone of the minor chord to add contrast for that higher section.  Getting from Bm to the higher bit will take some doing... and you know it might not even sound good... but something to try if your looking for ideas to develop it.  I really love where it is thus far though.  It gives me visions of like holsome little town on the wind swept American prairies in the late 19th century... all bonnets and suspenders.  Just lovely.

Thanks, I'm up for a collab anytime. I think you already know how much I appreciate you getting me onto the Weekly Beats scene and helping me with Ableton and Audacity.

Thanks Napear. I really appreciate the feedback and your ideas to add variation to this.  I actually spent several days this past week doing just that and expanding this out to a 3-minute plus song. I did something similar to your suggestion by introducing a section (bridge) in Fmaj utilizing an off-scale chord to help transition the common themes into slight variations for the outro. Not sure, but I think it works. I'll probably post the completed song for this week (since apparently uploading WIPs is "breaking the rules".  lol  My son (littlebigmosaic) tries to keep me in line on here. smile
