The Way

By Bunjigram on April 28, 2024 4:26 pm

I'm a writer and the way that I write is the same as the way I play the piano. I almost never know what I'm going to write about when I sit with my laptop and put hands to keys. It just flows. So it is with my piano. I put hands to keys -- and it just flows. I'm an improvisational pianist, partly because I never mastered music theory and reading music notation with speed and partly because it's just the way I'm wired. I play by ear. So, for this Weekly Beats challenge, I sit at my keyboard and just observe whatever flow comes. When I hear something I like, I hit record. It won't be perfect, but it's me. It's "the way" I do it. Thanks for listening.

Played on a Kawai ES8 - SK-EX concert grand patch with live hall reverb.

Great piano tone and well played. Nice. Well done :-)

Thank you.

Totally relate to your backstory and how you play.  Music theory has always been like Calculus to me lol.  I understand chords and things like that but as far as sight reading that's where i turn into a snail.  Sometimes I try too hard to make a beat driven track with multiple instruments but just sitting at my Roland RD-700GX I kinda just follow the first 2 notes and hope for happy accidents around those chords.  Thanks to Ableton's capture feature that makes a nice improv sesh so much easier.  Parts of this at times remind me of some Tori Amos even a bit of Billy Joel.  But that's my personal influence too so maybe that's my fault haha.  Def need to check out more of your tracks smile

It's a good way. Empirically speaking, it is. It's just facts.
