The Dream

By Bunjigram on June 16, 2024 5:43 pm

So I finally recorded my first piano track using Ableton (thanks to my son). I've got a steep learning curve in front of me, but I already know how much this will improve my creativity and final output (rather than just playing to my onboard keyboard recorder). This week, I was inspired by a poem called "The Dream".  I won't insert the entire poem here, but here are the last few stanzas:

...

What if this world
Is the dream,
Created by me and for me
To experience me?

What if
When evening comes,
Instead of going to sleep,
I wake up?

With opened eyes
I remember
the life
I’ve always known.

In the great reveal
I finally see
Each moment of my dream
Replayed with love,

And the infinite me,
A luminous drop of holy water,
Falling toward my home
In a vast and welcoming sea.

Thanks for listening.

So cool to hear you're using Ableton now.  The capture feature is my best friend when it comes to improvs and noodles.  Love the somber melancholy feels in this one.  The piano has a lovely tone to it.  Dynamics are excellent.  I like how the right hand plays a response to the left.  Well done!

Thanks.  I've got a lot to learn about Ableton, but my son has been using it for years for his mixes and has been really helpful in getting me started. It's nice to also have access to so many more sounds. I really loved the warm, buttery tone of this piano in contrast to the bright harmonics of my Kawai keys. So much to explore.

Amazing song. So beautiful low notes and gentle painful sound to your melody. It's inspiring for me to make piano songs, thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for the feedback.

Has bittersweet feel to it. The piano and dynamics are very expressive. I love gentle shifts between light and dark throughout and the simple melody introduced around 2:20. Reminds me Walt Whitman's observation that "Every moment of light and dark is a miracle."
