Just In Time

By Bunjigram on March 24, 2024 10:52 pm

I almost did not make it this week. I knew I wanted to do a piece in C minor since I saw a Youtube video of someone playing a piece in that key, so I decided to do a piano improv in that key as well. I did this in one take because I ran out of time. I probably would have added more variety to it and other chord progressions or a bridge, but this is what I came up with in the time I allowed myself.  I did choose a warmer piano sound and layered in some synth strings to mellow it out a bit. Because of the rush, I named it "Just In Time".  Recorded on a Kawai ES8.  Hope you like.

I like the warmer piano sound subtle strings layer under it. Great improv! I actually like the simplicity and way it progresses. Especially the mood shift at 1:57

It's funny how very differently different uses of Cm can be.  I have a professor who that's his go to key, and he pulls out hopeful, playful, and jazzy tunes as easily as mournful or dark ones... like it's his utility key... but I can't seem to write anything in that key that doesn't sound creepy. The minor seconds just call to me in Cm.  This is a lovely little noodle though, very much in that aspirational, hopeful realm... has a worship music quality to it.  Lovely articulation through out, well done.

Thanks. I thought I only had 30 minutes to play and record before the upload deadline.  I actually had 90 minutes due to Daylight Savings Time, but did not realize until after I uploaded.  Otherwise I would have refined this a bid more maybe throwing in some Sus chords and probably nixing the strings, which sound a little cheesy and distracting. Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for the feedback.  The strings sound very different depending on the playback speakers.  They sound a little distracting on my iPhone speakers but warmer and softer on headphones.

I actually like the "strings" layer under the piano.

Beautiful arpeggios, nice track. Piano is such a nice intrument. Well played.

Thanks, I’m hoping this weekly beats will help me to improve and grow.

The root of C Eb G, just always feels good to me.  This has some sweet dramatic melodies especially in the higher register.  The soothing outro chords are extra appreciated.

It's very fortunate I can enjoy this song at my own leisure, no rushing there. It's very pleasant.
