the interleaver (single-channel M8)

By bryface on January 21, 2024 11:59 pm

YEP a short single-channel exercise, once again no samples.

I have had some prior experience in this subject. Obviously the M8 is more flexible sonically by comparison, but it also presented some fun challenges specific to that platform's instruments.  This one kinda peters out at the end because i was spending more time just trying to think of novel things to try out within the 1-channel constraint.

fun things:
- reverb/delay tails are such a great thing to have for single-channel tracks
- using available note slots in Hypersyn's chord slots to form chords with salient notes that can be used towards forming melodies playable using CRDxx
- controlling Hypersyn's SUBOSC parameter independently via tables, both for weaving gradually in and out of both bass notes, and for pulsing basslines near the end.  all while juggling manual fake sidechainz

THIS IS ONE TRACK!? Insane. So much to the M8 for me to learn

funky and syncopated! wild how this never feels particularly monophonic even in the beginning, and then the chords actually start pumping out. huge!

Reminds me of the first time I heard somebody like Rahzel beatbox. It’s so rad I had to listen twice because the first time I couldn’t stop obsessing over the single track limitation.

Love it

Suck a cool song for a single track - I definitely need to play with the hyper synth more!

What.

Aw yeah, this is some nice fonky-chonk. I dig that volume pulsing ending section.

f'kin smartarse. Clever use of Hypersyn!

Make more with less, nice, I like it

cool:)

ah yes, the bryface special xD I fondly remember your 1-channel flex at MAGFest, you're an inspiration!

This is great. I haver to do this challenge myself someday. Insane creative.

wow, fantastic nerdy piece!
so cool to read about the way you did it! I can hear it in the beginning that it's 1 channel, but even while knowing it's a bit hard to tell! well done, thanks for sharing!
cool sound design and use of the hypersynth smile

So cool! I'm still learning the M8, this challenge adds an extra layer of creativity. Awesome work this is a groovy track and I can't believe it's a single track!

nicely done!

Being mostly unfamiliar with the M8, all I can really say is this sounds nice

ROTFL

I sounded it out!  LOL amazing

This is awesome; Ess has company

One channel??? This is wild! Would you consider releasing a bundle?

this is great dude, both technically impressive and just a solid chill tune

Oh love the single channel challenge, really excellent execution with that. Amazing breakdown section in the middle, love the huge synth sounds and bringing in the four on the floor. killer track with or without it being all one channel.

I dunno about the one channel thing but this is a nice track!

This rules man!

bang tidy!

Really impressive! Great tune musically and technically, especially the hypersynth trick was very cool

This is all one single track on the M8??? This makes no sense!!! Hahahaha... Amazing work on this, congrats! I srsly can't believe how awesome the stuff that comes out of this little machine sounds...

Welcome to your weekly "Bryface does everything better" experience!
I'm going to go ahead and pretend you lied and this is actually two M8s playing together ;P

What I love with single track stuff like this is the heavy sidechaining illusion it creates, superb use of reverb and delay to make things stay present throughout, as you have mentioned.
