rough day

something totally different - a moody incidental soundtrack piece. stylistically, i wanted to capture the feel of a film/tv score and have the song fall into the background. it was a refreshing change of to write music that doesn't try and scream into the listener's face, but instead, is sparing in its composition and is focused on its role as accompaniment.
as this is my first go at incidental music, i'd particularly appreciate any constructive criticism from people who write incidental music professionally. writing such music has been a long-standing pipe dream for me and it'd be nice to get a better sense of how feasible it is for me to do that type of work!
i thought i'd take the opportunity to get used to recording live MIDI keyboard takes in Reaper and just getting comfortable with the workflow. now, i'm a TERRIBLE keyboardist and long for the talents of those who can "just play" -- so really, this was an exercise in recording my busted-up playing, excising chunks of unwanted midi note data, tweaking velocity and note on/off data, overdubbing existing data with additional phrases, and getting used to keyboard shortcuts. then i just slapped some rain sounds on top for atmosphere.
piano sounds by pianoteq (love the way it handles subtle articulations!).
