Missed Connections

By blighters_rock on February 27, 2022 5:32 am

Finally got a song finished before Sunday!

A few weeks ago I was on a flight and the plane couldn't land due to weather, so it circled for a while and eventually diverted to an airport a couple hours away. The young woman next to me had a bit of an emotional meltdown when she found out she wouldn't make it home that night. This song isn't really about that, but I used that diverting experience as inspiration, then took artistic license from there.

Getting it done early really does wonders for getting the mix dialed in just right, that's for sure. The quality sounds really great on this, sounds really full with the limited instrumentation. That harmony at exactly 1:42 is so pleasing. Lyrics are great here too, especially liked the "Sometimes life makes you the passenger, non-stop, directly on your route" line.

This track sounds good. Lots of work on the vocals harmonies. Well done.

Historically I have had a really hard time getting acoustic guitars to sound right, especially when they're in a sparse mix. Really came together effortlessly this time, though. That 1:42 harmony hits me just right too--glad you dug it.

Yeah this is 100% the best sounding job you've done recording acoustic guitar, it's record quality.

Thanks for the wonderful song! Palate cleanser.

Such a refreshing track, spaciously comfortable and sweet rhythm! Well done!

This sounds legit, great song and great lyrics

Nice, loved this track. I was listening to the mountain goats just before this and before the vocals kicked in I was confused for a second! Vocals and mix sound great.

This sounds great. Nice work getting it done before Sunday! I really like the sound on the vocals in the lie die die bit from 1:35, and also the lyrical theme/inspo. Great work

Lots and lots of trimming extra sections and interludes to make it concise. Glad you liked how it came out!

Haha I was not familiar with that band. I was hanging out with a friend when I saw this comment come in and I said "uh... I think my singing was just compared to a mountain goat... but as a compliment?" My friend informed me that that is a band name, and I felt much better. I appreciate it!

I was hoping this early would propel me to start work on the next song early, but that has not yet come to pass. A friend of mine suggested that effect after he heard an early mix and gave comments, and it really helps to differentiate that part. That sound effect was done by using a couple of cut filters to cut everything except 1-2k, then adding some gentle harmonic distortion in that same range, with a little bit of noise to dirty it up some more. Plugins used were Logic's stock EQ, Spectre by Wavesfactory, and RC-20 by XLN.

Well done. Very pleasant and nice attention to detail. The acoustic strumming sounds great.

Excellent tambourine smile Nice guitar tone too!

i can hear trumpet and orange drink backing vocals on this smile  I feel like your "da dee da" was actually the trumpet line there!

your background harmonies are so good.

I don't know why "Zones 1-3 are boarding now" is such an awesome line.  it really is.

the mixing is delicious

Well done, cool to hear an acoustic song from you.  The lead part before the verses is pretty great.  Love the bridge too!  Great harmonies/chord progression.

(this transitioned nicely from the cosmic bodies song)
