Venerable Dreadnought

By BarristerPlong on February 27, 2026 3:24 pm

The goal this week was something big, menacing, evocative and intense. It started with a couple different drum loops and my 7 string in drop A. After a couple noodles I had 3 different rhythm guitar sections and wanted to introduce some arpeggios to add some chordal structure and movement from the simple riffs. I tried a couple of lead lines with my guitar but everything I made was needlessly complicated and unsatisfying so I decided to try a synth lead and ran through a dozen or so leads on the Minifreak before coming to the 666 preset which is what you hear in the final mix. I had a LOT of fun with the 666 preset playing with macros while performing creating this digital scream like sound that gave me feelings of the dreadnought pilot screaming in his fluid filled walking tomb, or the brutal spin of metal as his gatling guns spin up.
I'm really happy with the way it turned out. The third section when it hits really makes me want to rip and tear.

Happy week 9 everybody!

Another nice one! I particularly enjoyed the smooth resolution at the end.

This goes so hard. I can't stop headbanging

Venerable track

EPIC. I'm not sure how it managed to feel like it was building THE WHOLE TIME, but I'm here for it.

Cool spoken word intro.  It drew me in right away.  And then the awesome blend of heavy guitars and bloopy synths kept me interested.  Really cool stuff.

\m/ hail yais! love the synth lead going up against the wall of guitars and drums.  The snare hits so hard too felt like I should be banging on a keg ala Shawn Crahan of Slipknot.  Excellent work!

That intro! This is sick and goes HARD

I'm starting to think you might like Warhammer...

This goes so hard. Proper grinding.

It is indeed big, menacing, evocative and intense...

And groovy too! Whoa, those big chords sounds like cool synths. One of my favourite of yours this year I think.

The synth arpeggios on top adds such nice tension.

Thank you! It was hard to figure out how I wanted to ramp it down.

Thank you! I'm super happy with how the spoken word turned out.

Maybe a little. I just love cosmic horror. I've got a full tattoo sleeve dedicated to HP Lovecraft.

Awesome! Thank you!
I really love using arpeggios to refine a mood already set by a dominant instrument. It can really shape the emotive feel to the track.

Heavy as always, good stuff! I loved the intro smile

Oh yea here comes the dreadnought! Dig how have been mixing the synths and guitar heaviness.

damn dude, BIG MOOD

This track is really well done to convey the horror of a dreadnought and of the whole concept! I like how you are building a sonic landscape for wh40k!

Thank you! I am really proud of the picture it paints. The 40k naming and now themed came from my inability to name a track and my love of the grim dark.
