Songs of the Krell

By BarristerPlong on September 22, 2024 1:29 pm

Still recovering from my last couple nightmare weeks and struggling to find the time to bring myself back to normative values and also find time for music. So this week I've whipped up one of my favorites, a Krell patch.

I first thought that this would be something Marvel inspired, until I realized that my brain confused Krell with Kree big_smile

Nice sound design here! It somehow fits your theme of "SPACE!" from last week quite well big_smile

Delicious timbre and space on this one. Nose piercing brass sounds are just fantastic!

Nightmare weeks can lick toads. Wishing you better weeks, music-making friend.
This submission is super interesting: at times uplifting and hopeful, but at others, kind of spooky and menacing. Super pretty!!!

Today I learned about Krell patches! Looked it up before I listened. I really like the hard edged tone you have going on here - almost like an interstellar junkyard where the space hulks are rubbing up against each other.  smile Definitely works as a great bookend to last week’s SPACE.

“Seriously, are we not doing phrasing anymore?”

(lol the comments)  Maybe it was the marvel mention of Kree/Krell but this felt like being a stranded Tony Stark in a broken ship needing repairs.  But def space hulks rubbing amongst each other were felt and heard as well yikes Nice work!

Kree, Skrull, Krell, they're all in the same boat lol. The name comes from the soundtrack to Forbidden Planet where Bebe and Louis Barron made the first electronic music score out of strange noises stretched out and warped by numerous ingenious methods. https://www.effectrode.com/knowledge-base/the-self-destructing-modules-behind-revolutionary-1956-soundtrack-of-forbidden-planet/

It's so unpredictable it produces timbres I often don't expect it to.

Agreed! I'm more or less on the other side of it. Krell patches are super neat and completely unpredictable. This recording was just me pressing down one key and the patch did the rest.

Krell patches rule. They're so fun to tweak and get wild sound scapes from. I made an entire album of them called The Flora of Altair IV

Lmao. No. You're stuck there in the void. Say hi to million hand Harold for me. His cries echo through the endless black.

Yeah, the Marvel branding is strong. It's certainly evocative of drifting in a strange void. Thanks!

I spotted Krell in your title and was happy to see it was a krell patch!  Nice work on it too.  I haven't done one for quite some time.  Maybe next patching session.....

I love the musically of most krell patches.  So good.

Krell patches are so cool. No matter how many times I make them they always surprise me with alien musicality.
