Halcyon 5

By BarristerPlong on April 18, 2026 5:26 pm

More jazzy chords and similar but broken up progessions this week. I took the first half of the Rhythm Changes, the 1 - 6, dragged it out, added some arpeggios, swapped up the percussion, then later in the song a brief visit to the second half of the rhythm changes, the 2 - 5.
I really dig the way it turned out, it gives me Playstation era RPG environment exploration vibes.

Happy week 16 pals!

Instant favorite and I'm only 30 seconds in! What a way to follow your noir era smile

Dude, you always come through! This one is insane. The pads with the gate on them are soooooooooo nice.

Love those opening chords heart It kinda reminded me a bit of the opening from Donkey Kong Country's Underwater theme.  The panned lead sounds excellent with that deep dark bass.  Such excellent chill laid back feels.  Faved!

There is a lot here that I like. But if you don't mind me saying, And I'm going to be blunt here. Because the rest of the track is so nice. The bass is boring as a boring thing. That thing has nothing to say and sucks all of the momentum out of the track. I'm not suggesting adding a hyper bassline. But a little bit more movement. A bit more adventure would be good, in my opinion of course. I hope you don't mind that I'm sharing with you. Other than the bass the track is nice though.

another triumph. this feels like another barrister universe. would love to hear more in this space in the future.

It really does give me adventure/exploration vibes.  I'm ready to go take on a cave or a dungeon.

beautiful song, BP! i really like the pacing and determination, and your sound choices work together so well

Sounds like this would fit in with the OST from Read Only Memories 2064

This is dope as shit. The arp panning is agreeing with me. The different movements are great. The synth washes with the gates are putting in work. This is a gem.

Really cool stuff. Can't get enough of that stuttery gated synth!

I love the underwater theme from DKC, so that's a huge compliment. Thank you!

I apprecite the constructive criticism. I really like the simplicity of the bass. It gives a lot of space for the song to drift.

Great use of the gated filter at the start and how it transitions into the panning lead, this has such a nice flow to it, the pads at 1:35 are just lovely.  Such a great arrangement, it all sounds very organic.

Nice synthwave. Love the almost brass-ish bass und the chilled tempo.
