Sentimental walk on the Kaiaal trail

By Audioglam on March 9, 2014 9:59 pm

This week's composition reflects that lurking feeling of emptiness typical of melancholy. I've had a very productive week, but I'm also a bit stressed out and have had the desire to break loose a bit. Maybe go wandering on a trail.
Rather than spend to much time composing, quantising and such, I opted to start with complete improvisation. It was very therapeutic, and resulted in something that I left largely untouched. The piece becomes a bit more structured at approximately 2/3 into the song, where I decided to resort to some cutting and pasting, and a beat. The beat is simple, but was hellish to get tight as I wasn't working with grids or BPM.
Techniques used are Physical Modeling and FM. Both synths were played with a Midi Guitar, with some controls mapped around so that I could play notes with my left hand, while twisting knobs with my right. I especially resorted to control the Attack of the Physicaly Modeled impro, wich makes its sounds seem to morph between something resembling a guitar to something remeniscent of a violin (synthetically speaking). It makes the impro sound more rich and sometimes like it's two synths/instruments at the same time.

The song progresses very slowly, but that's the point so I hope you bear with it smile I recon this piece could be much longer, it'd really be nice to make a longer structured part.

I wrote about melancholy and emptiness in the beginning, wich sounds a bit pessimistic and offputting, but this might actually be the first weeklybeat I've done that I'm really pleased with.

Cheers everyone! I'm excited to hear what all of you have created this week!

This is great and beautiful

Nice job. I'm totally feeling your description about taking a walk on an empty trail. smile

Perfect description and quite relaxing!

Personally I thrive on that feeling, guess i'm just a miserable bastard wink The first sound instantly brought to mind this mortal coil's song to the siren. Very interesting pm instrument. Like the driving rhythm that comes in later too. Nice stuff.

That song was great and indeed in a similar mood. I was especially happy to recognize Elizabeth Frasers voice, as I think it's one of the most interesting and captivating out there.
The pm instrument is Kaivo, which I recommend wholeheartedly.

Cheers
