Between The Lines

By Ashtom on March 8, 2026 9:38 pm

This week again, I couldn't dedicate a lot of time and mind to my music. So I put this up together quickly using the ever trusty Deluge and tampering with existing presets. I also played a bit more with features from the community firmware that are new to me, especially the visual automation (with the interpolation mechanism, it's really powerful and immediate, I love it).

At least I could practice mixing and mastering in a DAW and I hope that one can give me some insights about the quality of it (or lack thereof).

Thanks in advance for any feedback, shared experience while listening, or technical advice about the mix quality. Maybe next week I'll be back to experimenting with cassette tape recording.

Have a an awesome week!

I think you did a great job! Before reading the description I wouldn't have guessed you were short on time. Everything's evolving nicely, and I really enjoy the pitchy sounds in the middle breaking things up. One thing I wanna try my hand at is the little misdirection in the beginning, where you hear a somewhat major-ish sounding chord in the high notes, but as the bass creeps in the sound becomes darker. Really cool!

I love how the chime lead and percussion feel like the rise out of the drone. The laser sounds at 1:28 are cool! At first they sound like something completely different, but they really fit well with the main lead. Lovely atmosphere all around.

Vagelis-inspired minimal, very nice.

Thanks for the compliment and the nice words! I must admit I didn't really planned any misdirection and just went with the flow. Sometimes I wish I had more intention with my approach to melodies and harmonies, and sometimes I'm worried that, with that knowledge, I might overthink it.

This is a humbling comparison but I must confess I don't know Vangelis work enough in detail. I should probably correct this. Thanks for your nice comment!

I like the dynamic development of the sounds .. incresing the tension in a easy listening track with aspects of a game gonsole.. shooting spasceships..relaxing!

Evolving texture with some surprises - I was not expecting the space laser sounds halfway but those grew on me as they mixed in.

There's good vibes in these drums
