Mobile Monuments

By Ashen Simian on September 1, 2024 7:15 pm

This week I decided to do some techno styled stuff... I used my old Roland R8 drum unit, because of its 90's vibe for the percussion. Otherwise it is basically the same gear as usual, but I used a bit more sequences to make it more lively. I also used my Roland D50 for those melodic parts that come after the beats in a minut or so. Also one of my favourite patches is that cloudy chord stuff that comes on like waves of the sea; it is Ensoniq TS-10. So actually there is quite a bit of new gear (for my WB tracks) in use here smile.

I have a soft spot for that early 90's ambient techno stuff... I was of the right age then and I always liked the crisscrossing sequences combined to strong beats. Underworld was probably my fave of those bands and still is.

This has a nostalgic feel for sure.  I was mostly interested in rock music in the early 90's, but I dabbled a little in techno/electronica, so I can appreciate the vibe here.  I like how the beat keeps things grounded while the synths go off exploring in space.

me: quietly grooving
*1:37 - synth from outer space kicks in*
me: sits up, YESSSSSS

this sounds soooo good. and always nice to see Underworld shouted out. i knew them from Trainspotting, but emily took me on some deep dives. they are so great!
we are also very into the Freur stuff  big_smile

excellent work on this track

What an addictive beat. Love the occasional scratchy exhales!

I loved this! The slow build-up was awesome and the retro vibes work so well for this. The lead synth sounds awesome and all the vibrato at around 2:32 almost make it cry! Overall the foreboding mood came through really well. Nicely done!

Thanks! There was a good vibe around then…everything seemed possible. But soon the Warp sound became a bit too influental soon and soon everybody tried to sound like Aphex Twin. I think Boards of Canada became the best of all electronic bands from that era,  eventually…

Haha! Thanks a lot… I am glad that this activated you in the way you described smile. Underworld is indeed great…my fave is that late 90’s patch around Trainspotting or so…. Great stuff after that too…

Thanks!  This kind of stuff is always nice to do….sometimes you really get to go with the flow and it is great. I just couldn’t help myself and had to add that analog solo on top in real time playing. Glad you liked it smile
