Hey everyone!

Hope life is treating you all well, this week is about me going through all stages of grief because of my obsession of making music on everything i own.
Usually this goes very well because most things happen to have really well working software made for them or are estabilshed daws but this time i decided to go the think different way and work in logic pro but on ipad.

I heard many good things about logic pro and as of lately the ipad musicians voices are getting louder and louder so i decided „why not give it a try too“.

Oh boy this was a huge headache. Let me get this straight right at the start. I hate touch interfaces for everything that does not benefit from it like lets say drawing software or note taking. Daws are a thing that imo benefit most from a very solid shortcut workflow as a foundation and only should go for clickable interface option as a second way of doing it but always having shortcuts as the primary intended way.

With how repetitive some actions are this is only logical to me and thats how every daw i ever used before handles it. From fl studio, ableton, renoise, reaper, the list goes on. Logic pro for ipad isnt one of those. It does not respect you nor does it respect your time. It constantly forces you to drag around workspaces and forces you to click around in interfaces that should just take the „escape“ key as a „get out of my face“ command but it refuses to do it.

So after struggling to find my way around it and not throwing my pen out of the window for hours i ended up actually kinda liking it. It took a while and it did get on my nerves a LOT but after giving it a serious chance i do see its potential.

I still dislike its workflow in a lot of ways but at least not i know what to do so it does not actively go against my will.

Now lets get to the bugs. Man the bugs….. There is one specific one that drives me absolutely insane. The occasional crash or weird audio glitches happening every now and then are okay for such a massive piece of software but one thing that absolutely does NOT have any reason to exist is this super annoying bug of my magic keyboard not working anymore.

Maybe anyone knows about it and id love to be proven to be the idiot but from my understanding logic pro for ipad does not support musical typing yet. A few people on discord even called me crazy for thinking it does but hear me out. Sometimes my magic keyboard randomly stops reacting to shortcuts like command c+v for copy paste and turns into a midi keyboard. I can now enter notes but have no way of exiting this mode unless i restart the app.

It also happens without any reason to do so. This for some reason only happens if i connect my midi keyboard via a usb hub. If i dont use it, its gone but then the bug of my keyboard not working anymore still happens. its just that it now does nothing. I had to restart my app is every 4-5 minutes. This really got on my nerves but after a while it kinda calmed down and stopped happening.

Please if anyone knows about this let me know what im doing wrong.

Well overall i kinda burnt out on this track because it was my learning experience of using it the first time and i screwed up so much from doing automation different on every instrument because i figured out a better way and so on. So instead of polishing it imma just throw it out as is and work on something better now that i know how to navigate logic.

Thanks everyone for listening to my ted talk and happy weeklybeating!

Sorry to hear about the technical problems. I wish I could help with that but I skipped iPad Logic the moment they made it a subscription product.

That said, the lead arp you have here is angelic. If there is a way to push this over to regular Logic please expand this into a full progressive banger.

Hey there! Thanks for checking it out. Yeah the subscription is annoying but with the new apple creator studio thing im somewhat pleased with it? Kinda sounds weird and i almost feel like throwing up by considering a subscription a good deal but right now im pretty happy i get to try it out without the upfront cost of buying it.

Sadly i dont have a mac at the moment so there is no way for me to put this into a desktop session to keep it going but i will be toying with logic some more and i will keep in mind that you like this kind of arp progression. Been hoping to do a progressive track for a while again anyways.

Come back next week, maybe there will be something fun waiting

This sounds badass! Also, super entertaining write up. Good on you for trying something new! I couldn't agree more on touch interfaces.

Thanks! I get the touch first workflow for ipad but with logic already having a established shortcut workflow its weird they didnt adapt that 1:1 for the ipad version too. there is no downsides for solid shortcuts imo

You put yourself through hell and back to make a great techno track. Your torture was our gain, great song this week. Rest easy, till Sunday at 6pm tongue

i had a really fun time listening to this! thanks for uploading this!
