D Minor Etude #2

This track was created using Famitracker 0.4.2 with 2a03+N163. It is not mastered.
I wanted to find a way to blend that "modern chip" sound with old school 2a03-based VGM styles as well as my own twist on the progressive genre. I think I now know how Tim Follin churned out rockin' tracks in like, 3 days. This was completed in under 3 hours. The track basically wrote and completed itself instantly. I've made a couple quick tweaks here and there since then but it's mostly the result of the initial work. Hope it has you rockin' out, dudes.
THINGS I LEARNED THIS WEEK:
I tried to use all 8 channels on the N163 but that seems to create this incredibly nasty hum that rides almost on top of the music (I'm aware of the weird channel integration issues with this chip- I just didn't realize that it was soooo pervasive). I kicked it back down to 4 channels.
In addition to the chip itself being weird, I found that the Famitracker integration of this particular chip is a bit buggy and sometimes creates weird problems in the automation (especially when you change instruments- it will auto default to all sine waves for no reason). I found that exporting to NSF fixes it... but then you can't actively listen to how it sounds while you're composing. I'll further refine this process in next week's etude to see if I can in fact get the 11 channel polyphony I'm seeking!
