Apple Sun

By Anon_Buster on July 25, 2020 5:32 pm

What a week. Here is a little diddly. I tried to make something like "Blue Vorpal," from a few weeks ago, where there is a fun melody, movement in the energy between ñarts, and something shorter for a soundtrack. To help the creative process, I stopped soft-locking myself by pausing to make sounds that might fit, and now have times where I make sounds for songs and for fun. This song is the result of a couple weeks of development while I made sounds for it.

Damn dude, this is sweet.  The main melody is cool as fuck.  Great arrangement throughout too.

This track is awesome. I really like the composition; all the individual parts feel unique and also part of a bigger whole.

You've put some great flow into this.

I took a bite of the Apple Sun and it was tasty as hell. Awesome energy, awesome track! smile

Thanks. I feel the transitions were a little harder than I wanted, but sometimes when I'm listening to it, it sounds fine. The cymbal and "Thud" sound were actually garbage sounds that acted as place holders. But after adding in the background pads to fill space, everything blended, so I left it as is.

Thanks. I'm trying to make songs that are more cohesive. The melody felt right for this one. I made changes to it, as not to have the same sound playing throughout. I want to do more manipulation of lead sounds to see how I can use a sound while changing certain parameters slightly between sections, for the sake of diversity and a feeling of movement in lead tone.

Be careful, if you take too big of a bite, it might burn. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad burn. Hmm. What did my doctor say about gonorrhea again?

omg the main melody is infectious and it cuts through the mix so well

Thanks. I think it cuts through too much, so I dropped it about 1.5 db, equalized the pads and supporting sounds, and firmed up the bass to give the track clarity and make the other sounds slightly more present.

Yea, I was out last week. I'm back though.

Loving that 808 smile Nice synth sounds too big_smile

Love how that main synth line twirls around the snare in the beginning.  Excellent harmonies going on in the middle section.  It kind of took me back to the sound of The Postal Service's album 'Give Up'.  Nice work!

Really awesome energy to this and a super catchy melody.

The hyper rubber lead melody is really cool. How did you compose it? Did you play it live on a keyboard or did you build it up progressively? I love how the track evolves. Fun and cool track!

Thank you. I need to check out The Postal Service.

I'm glad it came out that way. I was not feeling any energy with music creation the past couple weeks until this track.

I used the Akai Fire midi controller for the lead melody. It gives me a button press, which helps when I wan an on/off sound, like a quick acting bassline that doesn't have much attack or release. The original take of the melody wasn't quite as note-accurate, but I had the main melody with in-between notes. The melody came about during recording, but I had a back-and-forth idea going into the recording. After finding the idea I liked, and realizing the intervals I wanted to use for the transition notes, as not to distract from the main melody, I made the section uniform in its timing and placement of notes.

Big chunky sound! Really full and the drums are banging!! I like the upbeat vibe and that middle bridge rocks hard!
