DomeDrone

Before the last of 3 dark ambient shows at this year's Melbourne Fringe, I recorded a quick ambisonic drone performance using only the Waldorf Blofeld. The Blofeld was routed throguh ableton to 4 JBL LSR305s and  2 x krk subwoofers. Panning controlled by LFOs, sounds played via push 2.

In retrospect, I should have had the ambi mic closer to the ground to capture a fuller sound.
Still, its nice to get the privilege to record in such a unique space.

Definitely an interesting sound! I'd be curious to hear it developed in longer pieces.

For sure. I do have the IR of it but a mono impulse response doesn't quite capture the sense of space.
I might have to book the room just for recording at some stage.

Damn, this must have sounded amazing in that space.  Don't get me wrong, the recording is solid but those pans alone would have been amazing to experience

Yeah it was something else! Unfortunately I didn't really get to experience it too much as my console etc was to the side but from all accounts it was great. Fun fact, if you set up in the space just outside the dome and have 2 subs blasting isochronic beats it might make your head feel weird after a few ours. The phasing is mental.
