The Wishing Tree

By alterationx10 on February 14, 2026 7:54 pm

This is a resurrection of a project I've been putting too much pressure one myself for several years. I can't believe the Ableton project even opened - so I took it as a sign. I had a vocal track I made with Synth V, because I was afraid of sounding bad singing on my own. Now I'm just less afraid :-) So I recorded my own singing along with it, and layered in some synth - which was a little rough, as I've even forgot the key the song was originally intended to be written in.
I still don't think it's "creatively finished" - another incarnation will rise one day.

This song is about a Wishing Tree, calling out to those that can hear it. Come carve your name, and get your wish granted - but instead of it materializing, you jut get the knowledge of how to do it yourself.

Good on you for picking up the project again! We're in the same boat, I tried singing for the first time this week too and felt very awkward. Points to us for giving it a go, and you sound great!

woo! nice track, very mellow. reminds me of DJragon!

AI + human voice is such a cool idea!

Awesome! Just gotta keep with it - after you do a couple vocal tracks I think it starts to feel a little more familiar again!

I just gave that track another listen the other day when someone else was talking about Synth V. I'm not sure it aged very well, haha

I think Synth V is a great program, and it's neat to be able to create realistic sounding vocals with it (I remember it still being a fair amount of work though, haha) I haven't used it in a couple years, but listening to this again thought maybe it would be fun to use it for some back-up vocals and throw it through some gnarly effects too.

I like the complex vocal lines, it's very much up my alley. I wish there was more instrumentation to go with it. Or, wait, maybe what's there is good but as an intro to a longer-form track where in phase two music blasts with full force. Like, imagine, "this fucking apple" and then SOLO DROP C GUITAR CHUGGING and after that all hell breaks loose.

To be clear, I don't expect this kind of shit as weekly beats, but I'm suggesting you work this beat into a full-blown track.

I had planned a 5 track album along time ago, this being the first track and one other related called "Atrophy" (Having knowledge, but never using it, and it withering away).

Thinking about the proposition, I could see a 3 track album of this, leading into one called "Burden" (Knowledge is the heaviest burden) and ending with Atrophy - that would be a pretty sweet arc.

In 2025, I wanted to take my WB24 songs and release an album of a few of them cleaned up, but didn't get the chance. Maybe this can be my 2026 goal.
