I'M BACK!

This was the song I had planned for week 10, but didn't have time to set up/record. Everything recorded/mixed/mastered on the Tascam DP-24SD.

Vocals split out of my TA-1VP into my V22 Vocoder and parallel with the Eventide H90 (same "Modern Vox" preset with lowered formants as week 9/Hollow). Summit is playing the ambient background and I consolidated a bunch of gear into a new Iridium Core which is doing the other synth part (badgear was right - it is serum for old people). I feel like I'm really converging on a consistent hardware setup that I like.

The preset on my Summit had a running LFO that would play a cool sound without being keyed. I thought would make a cool fade in/out sound. It also wasn’t synced to the BPM of my track. That coupled with some different drum rhythms than I normally use, and I was completely unable to play/count along for a guitar track on top of it this week.

Mixing/mastering the track was a bit difficult - seems to be a lot of BASS in it I had to keep chopping so it didn't sound good on my headphones but horrible on my laptop. The compressor definitely brings the drums up a lot more than I had hoped too, but the limiter is doing work.

Epic vocal quality! Love the track!

The vox is awesome on this smile

those vocals are rad! I'm curious how much more serum like the Iridium must be compared to the Hydrasynth, as I've only got the latter and it feels very serumesque.

Thanks! I really liked how it came out, and think I have room to do more cool stuff in this vein

I think maybe the joke about serum is more towards the UI of it - the core being largely driven by the touchscreen and visualizations. Lots if seeing the wave table, and eq filters shifting back-and-forth with automation, etc... I use to have a Hydrasynth, and ironically the sounds I quickly got out of that were probably more like the sounds I could quickly get out of serum. Still getting to grips with it though! The iridium core is SO LIGHT AND TINY - my Hydrasynth desktop was a TANK (even took out the second fanciest computer monitor I've ever had when it fell on it 😭).

Happy your back! It's always so sad to see people drop out of weekly beats. I really love your stuff and I'm happy you're here heart

Thanks! It’s been a busy week, and I wasn’t going to post anything this week either - but you motivated me to get something in!
