A Ritual For Abandon

By alonemusic on April 12, 2026 9:45 pm

Distracted and tired sums up this week me thinks. It's been a strange one. I've picked up a few new bits of hardware for... reasons.. but I started well with a little acoustic noodle. This bookends the track, but the rest very much felt like changing stations on an old radio, hence the static samples throughout the track.. It felt apt, if a bit on the nose.

So, new hardware tho! The only things I used on this track were an FM/AM radio to get the static and odd noises, and a cute lil synth, the Behrigner UB1. My CDM Meeblip SE bit the dust this week and might be proper dead, so it was lucky I had a new toy in the post.

I also picked up a Kastle Bastle (or a Bastl Kastle actually.. ) but I'm yet to dig in...

Anyway.. more about the track? hmm.. I guess it feels a bit messy to me.. it ended up with a lot of layers, and I didn't have much time to mix them, I also tried to really bring the kick drum and the synth washes forward, but might have over cooked that.. but I do still enjoy it.. late night static for a late night world.

ART:

Dude, this is sooooo gooooood. This is giving me bits of a bunch of different things I love, but the thing that immediately comes to mind is Outer Wilds. I love the acoustic/electronic blend here. Great job!

I love the layered nature and evolution of this track. It goes places. And when  it opens up about 2 minutes in it feels powerful. But when the kick joins in on the second opening, that's nice and impactful. Overall I do agree that the track and mix are a bit messy. But not in tremendously bad way, or anything. Lovely little track!

Smooth. I really like those "vinyl crackles".

Messy is fine... And I'd say it is pretty clean for a "messy" track.

Nice build up. Powerful sounds.

Well played!

Incredibly epic piece!! I was enthralled the whole way through. I read your description afterwards and was a little surprised, it sounds so coherent to me! (Not saying you shouldn't feel that way, I just didn't pick it!)
The Bastl Kastle is very cute, curious to hear what you get up to with it!
Very well done on this track!

Such a sweet intro with the warped arpy feels that transform into awesome stereo goodness.  Such an awesome build and love that repeating delayed line \m/ Excellent work!

heart thank you! In hindsight and a few weeks away, I've warmed to its wonky charms. The Kastle is so much fun that I bought another big_smile

strongarmemoji Thank you. I'm a big fan of crackles and hiss and odd noises.. I think they bring things that could be a little too clean to life.

Outer Wilds has baiclly been a touch point for me for the years since I played it. Incredible game and soundtrack. Thank you heart

An emotional powerhouse as usual. Mystical in its movements. A chance encounter on a dead channel.
