City Rain is Pretty in Retrospect

Wait for the beat drop…

I spent some time trying to perfect my “punchy beat” building. I made the snare samples myself, and sampled a drum recording from last week to get some varying hi hats. The only synthetic drum sample is the kick, which I’m proud to say! I have been playing around a lot with a tape plugin I bought recently - I absolutely love the character you can get out of it, not to mention the lofi kind of filtering before the beat fully comes in. (Goes without saying that this is another Tame Impala inspired beat, mainly his Currents phase)

I’m living in the countryside again after being in the city for a few years - the rain recording was taken there, hence the title. The rain sounds different, so I guess I’ve made it a metaphor for the memory of the city being distant and different. The lyrics aren’t really supposed to make sense but could be interpreted that way.

I think my favourite part about this track is the bouncy synth after the vocals, which was just me messing about on my midi keyboard and I decided it fit well

Nothing special but I’m happy with the quality I can get out of these sounds which I maybe wouldn’t have this time last year.

I hear it in my dreams
Like rain that’s falling endlessly
It seeps into my sleep
I’ll never know what it could mean

Neat work! The beat packs a punch to be sure.

The drop!!!

I like the guitar and the buildup. And lovely rain sound!

yo this is really good!

I definitely hear the Tame Impala in the bassline. Really well produced and catchy, great cut!

This song is pretty all the time, rain or shine

Oh, that bassline, mate... THAT BASSLINE!!!

One of the catchiest songs I've listened on WB this year, by far. Excellent tune!

It start quite "harmless", and the kick snare crescendo gives away some of the style, but... when the bass enters, the whole song goes to another level. I REALLY REALLY love it
