Concrete Thoughts

By 4ntler on January 25, 2026 8:14 pm

Hit those rails and rack up a high score in the concrete jungle that is Neo Osaka.

Last week was a very through-composed, serene piece of music. This week I felt like going the opposite direction: loop-centric, percussion, lots of samples and just a bit weird. I started getting into those Jet Set Radio vibes and leaned into it.

Later on there's even a jazz flute solo that's pretty out there.

Hope you like it! Keep on going people, we're almost through the first month already smile

You got my head grooving with this one. The scratch samples are a great, really sets the mood! Great track big_smile

this is freakin' cool haha. When I pick up the m8 I just use it likehi-def LSDJ. This makes me want to pick it back up and try to approach it differently.

Those record scratches and vocal "ha" stabs are so good.

hell yea feeling that funky bass.  Gave me some toe jam n earl vibes as well.  Those lil plinky arps are extra nice! The scratches complete this! Well done!

love the funky farty bass heart

The really cool plasticky toy sample sounds work really well with what the groove and melody is laying down.
Very very nice track, brimming with character

Right back at ya, rob! The sampling stuff you do on the gameboy is so different from how I use it, it's motivating to get back into lsdj as well.

The scratching is my favorite but I like all of the samples you chose!

Funny, the scratches were the first time I tried sampling on the M8. It's really powerful!

Hah, not a bad wacky crowd to be in. Though I'm partial to Waluigi, that sicko

Especially love the squarewave arps sprinkled in here. Fantastically weird track

Good catch! They're quite subtle B)

The scratches scratch my brain! very fun use of samples. and such disjointed melodies. Feels like a 2d platformer level set in the early 90's. but a caricature version of that decade!

Yeah, that's the vibe I was going for. smile

The 90s were a wacky period for sure!
