48 kb, 12 channel extended module (.xm). Made really fast because of busy times. But still, a song! \o/

Awesome, such good melody writing!

^ The chorus melody especially smile

I will always have a soft spot for this kind of stuff.

Am curious, how do you guys usually collaborate? Is one of you better at starting and the other one at finishing songs, or what? big_smile

We both start stuff from time to time. cerror is usually better in transforming a song to a new level so when I make up chord progressions, drums and basslines (like this week's song or last week's song), he does a really good job getting it to the next level. Then I add melodies or he adds melodies and a setup for the chorus progression and I hook in on that part. We don't really think about finishing songs on a theoretical level.

Most of the times it's just taking care of a proper arrangement by repeating parts or key-ing up certain parts by using bridges or short solo parts. A very pop-kind of look at song progression really. But we both like songs to be structured and really sound like a real song, with proper and noticeable verses and chorusses. I really like the oldschool loops as well but a lot of chipsongs nowadays tend to just put random melodies together for three minutes.

Ah yes big fan of lush melodies and verse-chorus structure.
After years of such tunes, I've been pushing myself lately in the opposite direction, trying to get my song-structuring muscles back in shape by milking the most out of as little material.
Works well in conjunction with my 'lack of time', and also the songwriting criteria in chipcircles are way lower today than back in the scene days so that makes it OK big_smile
Ideally once I get my chops on I'll be able to make the best of both worlds.

Cheers for the reply

Yeah I really like songs that repeat certain parts because if they're good I'd like to hear them back in a different context (i.e. after a good bridge of solo). So throwing melodies on a three minute 128bpm 4/4 beat gets boring fast, although the occasional awesomeness can occur in this situation as well.

Good to hear you're flexing those muscles by extorting as little though, very good practice!

And don't really like the songwriting criteria lowers the bar, although making chipmusic is still a fairly easy way of making music, it shouldn't mean it has to sound easy. I like to rethink melodies or making things better by thinking about something once or twice, although weeklybeats sometimes prevents that by having very little time to finish stuff.

damn, guys. you're kings of melody for sure.
