Embrace

Week 1 of 3 of a trip to Indonesia, where I am attending a wedding next week. For me, who never left Europe before, this is quite the adventure so far. Many things are and feel quite different, to an extent that travel guides and reports didn't really capture. Hopefully this track does. Inspirations stem from what I have experienced this past week.

I want to highlight the traditional gamelan sounds that I inspired the bell-like synth. Also, the vocoder-like sample in the middle of the track is a field recording of an Indonesian train conductor.

Lyrics:

Embrace the traffic
Embrace the malls
Embrace the lack of potable water
Embrace the feverish mosquitoes
Embrace the country

Embrace the language
Embrace the fruit
Embrace the insanely low prices
Embrace the tasty meals
Embrace the country

Embrace the nightly calls
Embrace the lack of soap dishes
Embrace the broken sidewalks
Embrace the swaying trains
Embrace the country

Embrace the ocean
Embrace the dishonest drivers
Embrace the punctuality
Embrace the fire-breathing mountains
Embrace the country

Is that sound at the very, very start of the track, sounding like a reverb tail of something, intentional? Because it instantly pulled me in and fascinates me. smile

I like the dark, mysterious texture. And the lyrics! What makes the drivers dishonest?

Love this - it reminds me of older VNV Nation before they got boring.

Not really sure what you mean, but the background is a heavily processed version of a field recording of an Indonesian train, which was very rhythmical and used its horn a lot. Maybe something in there?

We met one with whom we agreed upon a fixed rate and later he claimed he had to make a detour and used extra fuel so he had to charge almost 10% extra. That was the first one we had hired for a longer time so it was a bad first impression. Later we met others who were much more honest. smile
