Ondas e ondas

By xavier marques on May 19, 2024 11:52 pm

I got to go see the sea this weekend and the beach had lots of wavy dunes, hence "ondas e ondas" which is portuguese for "waves and waves"

I had been working on this idea inspired by last week's ambient submissions from you fellow WBers, and was also messing around with internal MIDI on the m8 to create layers of synths. All of this became this massive wall of sound.

I got a bit carried away with the performance and there's a hiccup here and there, but I was running out of time and had to commit to something.

Enjoy and see you next week!

I just drifted away for the whole track. Excellent work

This is like white noise but musical and moody.

whoa! This is so big yet calming at the same time. I'd love a breakdown on how you created this on the m8! Well done!

love this! the calming sounds are so nice

The m8 has become my main instrument lately and I've been trying to get better at sound design in it. One thing I find is that, although it is very versatile in terms of programming and its sound engines, sometimes it takes a bit of work to get something to sound a bit more textured and dynamic, so I tried to achieve this by using an internal midi instrument and have it trigger two or more different instruments. I see it as layers, where I start with a single instrument and then add another to fill the gaps.
Check this video on how to setup the internal midi instrument: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOScHw2YwjQ

On this track, I've also used internal midi to modulate the delay time with a "drunk" LFO, with the feedback turned almost all the way up. This gave me very unexpected results that I sampled internally and messed with them a bit more to get them to sound like a granulator.

Hope this helps and didn't become too confusing.

Thanks for listening!

I was actually shooting a short film during this week, hence the trip to the beach! Thank you for listening!

Seems like it hasn't been produced on the M8, but the M83 smile Lovely track.

Very cool, I was recently trying to figure out how to modulate delay time so I may give this a try thanks for sharing and making that video

This is so atmospheric and rich, an ocean to get lost in smile

You're welcome, although that is not my video.
