My first ever WB!

I'm scoring a movie and will have a show next week where I'll be playing the soundtrack live.
There was a scene missing a song so I had to come up with something for it fairly quickly.

I had done a few cello sessions and have a whole bunch of sounds available so I prepared a long drone and a track with random cello noises and did the rest of the arrangement on the M8.

This track I'm submitting was recorded during the rehearsal where I have the m8 and a wooden box filled with "stuff" and mic'ed with a piezo and playing it live with a bow, all running through Ableton Live with some processing that I tweak live.

I was trying to come up with something different for this WB but because I was too busy scoring this, and I happened to have made it this week, though to submit it.

Hope you all enjoy!

The width of this track is amazing! It feels like a digital vs analog battle. I would personally ease up on the compression on some of those fade-in-drum hits, but honestly this is already a favourite for 2024! Well done big_smile

Thank you!

I agree with you on the over compression. I've got a compressor on the master out and recorded this whilst rehearsing and got caught up in the moment.

Welcome, hope you enjoy your stay.
It almost sounds like there's a cat in the track.

Are you allowed to say what the movie is?  Because this sounds cool af.

I'd be interested in learning more about your setup with the M8 and the bowed wooden "stuff" box. tongue

I'd love to share it. Here's the trailer:

Live I'm using the M8 to play a few tracks I've made to sound like tape loops, so I can play any track and they all add up to create a musical background for the movie. On top of this, I use the wooden box to perform as a normal instrument. The bow adds a lot of expressivity to it.
All of this is running through an Ableton Live session with separate tracks all going through several fx and loopers controlled by a midi controller.
This gives me a lot of freedom to perform and react to what's going on the screen.
I use another synth to perform more melodic lines.

I've got the video for this WB, just need to add the audio and I'll post it.

Hope this was helpful.

Wow, this grabbed my attention! Great pacing and detail; so much to pay attention to here without feeling overwhelmed. I'm curious about what your own output will sound like when you aren't scoring other people's material!

Most of what I do is somewhat related to cinema or storytelling. I've got this conceptual music project where we draw inspirationg from the space exploration theme where human kind has to find a new place to live and they've set out to find this place but had some issues along the way.

I'm currently finishing the next record (where the ship arrives at this new destination)and intend to release it in the meantime.

Love the dark mood and atmosphere throughout.  That percolating arpy synth really creates a sense of dread.  I just started playing the game Dead Space and this totally took me to a place like that smile  Welcome and nice work!
