Spirit Leaves the Body

This weekend I stood outside of my parents old house. I touched the fence and it smelled like hot summer days playing in the yard. I raised the flag on the mail box and remembered sending countless letters to friends who had moved away. I touched the spot on the tree where, when learning to ride my bicycle, the pedal had gashed the trunk when I crashed into it. I stood looking at the house, feeling like an apparition floating outside of it.
