fresh tungsten

This recording on polycarbonate was a little bit too much gained. the distortion is still acceptable and I keep it like this. this week I mounted a new tungsten needle on my recordio, but I am not shure if I hear any difference. Maybe the old one was still good, it have cut about 100 songs with it, don`t know anything about the lifespan of tungsten needles on record cutters.

Yeah wow.  What a trip!

So you're experimenting with various materials to record onto I'm guessing?  I'm surprised it's not as noisy as some other home vinyl recorders or even other Wilcox machines.

This sounds great--really enjoying that rolled-off frequency profile and warble. Also, total respect for cutting your own discs!

Thanks for looking into medias res. As much as I know, polycarbonate is the cheapest and best material. I wanted to experiment with the lubricants, the temperature, the EQ and the gain this year. There is a community of „lathe trolls“, which discuss the pro and cons of every step you should take in the process. But in the end the Wilcox-Gay Recordio is the lowest level of machines, not to compare to a presto or vestax cutters. But still it is great gift, to have a nice Lofi record of my music in real time.

Fantastic! So good 😊
